KOCHI: An apostolic delegation under
the leadership of Archbishop Mor Timotheos Mousa Al Shamani of
Nineveh & the abbot of Mor Mattai Dayaro, Mosul, Iraq has reached
Kochi on Sep 29, Tuesday, to participate in the 324th Dukhrono of
Maphriono St. Baselios Yeldho, the holy father who came to
Malankara from Mosul in Iraq three centuries before and died here at
the Mar Thoma church (Cheriapally) in Kothamangalam on Kanni 19, AD.
1685.
Besides the archbishop the 18-member delegation from the birth place
of the Saint includes Very Rev. Aphrem Cor-Episcopus, Fr. Kuriakose
and Fr. Abdulla Ishai. The delegation also includes the members from
the family of the holy father .

Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, H.H Moran Mor
Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, has approved the
disciplinary action that the Patriarchal Vicar of UK, Dr.
Mor
Coorilos Geevargheseinitiated against Fr. Eldhose
Kavungumpillil. Through the Apostolic Bull No.E 154/09 dated 23
September, 2009, the Holy Father has approved the suspension of
Fr. Eldhose Kavungumpillil. His Holiness has also directed Fr.
Eldhose to obey Dr. Mor Coorilos and strictly comply with the bull
of Mor Coorilos and directed him not to function as a priest
until his suspension is revoked. The Patriarch, in the Apostolic
Bull, has also reminded him that similar disciplinary action had
to be taken against him in 2003 and prayed that he would this
time sincerely repent. Fr. Eldhose has also been directed by the
Holy Father to immediately contact His Beatitude the Catholicose
H.B Dr. Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I and the Patriarchal Vicar for U.K.,
Dr. Mor Coorilos Geevarghese and sort out the issues.

Kerala's affluent
Syrian X'ians face ageing, dwindling numbers: The Economic Times
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Kerala's Syrian Christians are an unmistakable elite among all major
communities in the state in socio-economic indices. But material
contentment apart, the community's future appears dreary, as rapid
ageing and dwindling fertility rates push the group towards the
negative growth zone. Social scientists fear that the community
could go the Parsi way in the country in the near term.
A study by KC Zachariah of the Centre for Development Studies here
points to the size of the Syrian Christians likely to hit a maximum
of 30.21 lakh in 2011 and then decline to touch 28.51 lakh by 2031.
Their net growth rate during 2001-31 is projected to be negative
0.19% (-0.19%) per year, and the percentage of Syrian Christians to
the state's population is likely to drop from 9.5 at the beginning
of the century to 8.4 by 2031.
"The trend has its roots in the already declining population rate,
compounded by the fact that migrating Syrian Christians go to
countries from where they are unlikely to return, as against those
who migrate for a few years and return to the state", Mr Zachariah
told ET.
Syrian Christians' bleak future in terms of population growth is in
stark contrast to the community's accomplishments on the
socio-economic indices. On a socio-economic scale of 1 to 5, with
rank 5 being the most desirable, Syrian Christians are the only ones
who have a rank higher than 3, while Nairs, Ezhavas, Latin
Christians and Muslims all have a score between 1.5 and 2.
But with such a glittering feat in socio-economic indices, the
community will be hard pressed to ensure that it thrives in the
future, as it faces the twin issues of fewer children and an ageing
population. Mr Zachariah's study shows that while the last century
began with an elderly population of 4% in the community, the century
ended with the elderly making up 10% of the community.
The first quarter of this century is likely to witness the elderly
population in the community touch 25% of the total, growing at 3%
per annum, as against a negative 0.35% growth for the total
population.
Not surprisingly, Syrian Christians have done more than any other
community in establishing homes for the elderly. A couple of years
ago, it was seen that nearly 50% of the 125-odd old-age homes in the
state were in Kottayam and Pathanamthitta districts where Syrian
Christians abound, and that the Syrian Christian community managed
95% of these homes.
While there is concern that the community's clout could dwindle
alongside its falling numbers, Mr Zachariah points out that it need
not be so. He says the community's clout can be maintained or even
increased by developing its human and material resources, and that a
policy option for the community could be to invest an increasing
share of its resources for the development of its human and material
resources.

TRICHUR: Senior priest in Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church,
Cor Episcopus Paulose Maathankudiyil has called to eternal rest
yesterday. He was 94.
He was ordained as a priest in 1957 & ordained as Cor Episcopa
in 1987. For long 40 years, he was the Vicar of St. George JSOC Chuvannamannu.
He has served as vicar in many churches in Ankamali, Trichur & Kochi dioceses.

Apology for posting a news related to a person who is acting against
the Holy
Church
We regret to inform you that we carried a news regarding the jubilee
celebrations of one Fr. Eldhose Koungumpillil who resides in UK. We
have learned from our Church leadership that Fr. Eldhose
Koungumpillil is currently under suspension.
Fr. Eldhose has been suspended by the Patriarchal Vicar for UK, Dr. Mor
Coorilos Geevarghese Metropolitan with the permission of the
Patriarch. Fr. Eldhose has been apparently involved in anti-church
activities in the UK for quite some time and for this reason, he has
been suspended from functioning as priest in our church in the UK.
It is now clear that even after his suspension he is continuing with
his anti-church activities in the UK.
Our Catholica Bava thirumeni, through a kalpana, has recently warned
him about his anti-church activities and also ordered him not to use
any of Bava’s pictures anywhere because by using pictures of him
together with Bava and other bishops and dignitaries, he is trying
to misguide people that he is still an active priest in the Church.
We understand that he is being supported by the “methran kakshi”
people in the UK.
Fr. Eldhose was also suspended by Dr. Mor Gregorios Joseph a few years
back, when His Eminence was in charge of UK and Europe for the same
reasons of non co-operation with the church authorities and of
serious lack of discipline. He was later reinstated in the Church
after apologising to Dr. Mor Gregorios Joseph. It appears that Fr. Eldhose is repeating the same mistake again. When we came to know
about these facts, we have immediately withdrawn the news item
regarding Fr. Eldhose from our websites. Once again we apologize to
our readers for posting that news which may have created some
confusion among the minds of our faithful. Let us all be vigilant
against such ‘priests’ and false prophets who collaborate with the
dissident “methran kakshi” faction and try to divide our church.
A
new chapel in the name of St. Gregorios of Parumala at Kazhakuttam,
Thiruvananthapuram
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
A new chapel in the name of St. Gregorios of Parumala has been
started at Kazhakuttam, Thiruvananthapuram close to Techno park. The
first Holy Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Siby Joseph, Vicar St.
Peter's JSS Cathedral Thiruvananthapuram. The Holy Mass was attended
by Rev. Fr. Abraham Kattathara, Vicar St. Mary's JSS Church, Rev.
Dn. Dr. Paul Samuel and Rev. Dn. Bennet Kuriakose. Trustee Mr. M.
Samuel, Secretary Mr. Reji Abraham and other committee members were
also present.
This is the second in a row of newly formed congregation chapel
under the initiative of St. Peters JSS Cathedral. The chapel is now
functioning in a rented building owned by a Muslim person who is
giving it for the first time. The inauguration of the chapel
coincided on the Eid day of Ramzan which is important for the
Muslim population.
The chapel is situated at the bypass junction of Kazhakuttam and is
barely half kilometre to Techno park. It is near the main road side
and is on the second floor of the building. Hundreds of faithful
attended the Holy Mass and received blessings. Holy Mass will be on
every third Saturday of the month at 7.15 AM.
