Consecration
of the renovated St. John's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church,
Karuguntha - Karnataka on May 1st & 2nd
NARASIMHARAJAPURA, KARNTAKA:
The
Consecration of the renovated St. John's Jacobite Syrian
Orthodox Church, Karuguntha near Narasimharajapuram in
Karnataka will be held on 1st & 2nd May, 2012. The
Consecration ceremony will be led by H G Mor Milithios
Yuhanon - Metropilitan of Thumpamon Diocese, H G Mor
Thevodosios Mathews - Metropolitan of Kollam Diocese & H E
Mor Chrysostomos Markose - Archbishop of the EAE
Archdiocese. St.
John's J S O church is the sixth church of EAE ( Paurasthya
Suvishesha Samajam) in Narasimharajapuram region.
Their Graces, the
Metropolitans will be accorded a warm welcome on 1st May evening
at St. George Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Narasimharajapura
and then taken to the renovated St. John's JSO Church,
Karuguntha in a procession led by the Sunday schools & Youth
Asociations of the six Jacobite churches in the region. The
evening prayers will be held followed by the first stage of the
consecration ceremony. The concluding part of the consecration
ceremony will be held on 2nd May followed by a Public meeting in
which the leaders from various socio - political sections of the
society will participate.
The arrangements for the consecration ceremony is being led
by Kohano Kasheero V . Rev A V Jacob Cor-Episcopa Arakkal,
Rev. Fr. George Jacob Arakkal (Vicar) and the Church
managing committee members.
HB Baselios Thomas I Catholicose offered
Holy Qurbono in St. Mary's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church
Pazhamthottam after 38 years.
PAZHAMTHOTTAM:
It was a day when heaven rejoiced. HB Baselios Thomas I
Catholicose, who is also the Diocesan Metropolitan offered
Holy Qurbono at St. Mary's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church,
Pazhamthottam after 38 years on 29th April 2012. After being
ordained as Metropolitan in 1974, His Beatitude was unable
to enter this church due to the problems created by Methran
Kakshis. After his ordination in 1974, he was accorded a
rousing reception in this Church. But the oposing group, who
could not bear this created a law & order situation in the
Church which ended up in police lathi charge. Section 144
was clamped in the Church premises. A case was filed against
Rev.
Fr. Baby John , Rev. Dn. Mathai
Edappara &others.
The priest was arrested and later on freed on bail.
Protesting against this atrocity, HG Mor Dionysius ( HB
Baselios Thomas I ) held an indefinite hunger strike in
front of the church gate. The faithful rushed to
Pazhamthottam. Protests meetings were held everywhere in
support of the fasting Metropolitan. The governemnt could no
longer keep their eyes closed. They formed a Ministerial
level sub-committee to look into the matter and solve the
issue. On 16th June 1977, the negotiations ended and an
agreement was reached. Since then, Bishops belonging to
neither faction had entered Pazhamthottam Church.
As a result of the Case filed by the Methran kakshis in 1977
being rejected by the Kerala High Court, the Church was
restored to the real owners and Jacobite Church has come
into complete posession of the Church. This facilitated
Shresta Bava's entry into the Church and his offering the
Holy Qurbono there.

honored under the auspices of the family units functioning
under St. John's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Vadakara.
Honorable Minister for Food & Civil Supplies Shri. Anoop
Jacob ingaurated the meeting. 155 elders of the Parish, who
have completed 75 years were honored in the solemn function
held at the Church Parish hall. Rev. Fr. Paul Peechiyil
presided over the meeting. Koothattukulam Panchayath
president Smt. Sina Johnson, Thirumaradi Panchayath Vice
President Shri. V M Alexander, Shri. Baby Kochuviripil,
Shri. P C Yohannan, Shri Wilson Mathew, Smt. N C Aliyamma,

St.George Syrian
Orthodox Church of Charlotte, North Carolina(USA) is having a week
long Perunnal celebrations from April 29 to May 5, 2012 in the name
of St.George, the Patron Saint of the parish. The celebrations will
begin with the hoisting of the Church flag on Sunday, April 29th by

Assembly in Bangalore

Fr. Dr. Jerry Kurian, Professor of Communications at the United
Theological College, Bangalore and former Professor at the MSOT
Seminary, Mulanthuruthy made a theological presentation on Public
Witness at the 27th General Assembly of the National Council of
Churches in India, held at St. John's Medical College, Bangalore
from 25-28 April 2012. The delegation of the Jacobite Syrian Church
was led by Mor Coorilos Geevarghese. Very Rev. Dr. Kuriakose
Moolayil Corepiscopa, Fr. Jerry Kurian, Fr. Kuriakose Punnachalil,
Fr. Jacob Joseph, Mrs. Molly George,Ms. Binu Mathew and others were
part of the 18 member delegation of the Jacobite Church. V. Rev. Dr.

of Kochi Diocese will held at Kyomtha Seminary, Thiruvankulam in the

On Sunday, the 15th April, 2012, the St. Mary's Jacobite Syrian
Orthodox Church, Kolkata organised a meeting to bid farewell to
Rev. Dn. Neyon Paulose (Kuriakose) from the Angamaly Diocese, who
has very successfully completed his B.D. Programme from the Bishops
College in Kolkata. During the occasion, the member priest Rev. Dr.
K. P. Aleaz, who is also the senior most Professor in the Bishops
College, spoke very high of our Deacon and he also stated that Dn.
Kuriakose was always liked by the entire community in the Campus for
his amiable behavior and his ability to get on well with the people.
Rev. Fr. Aleaz also mentioned that he is a good sportsman and was
the captain of the Cricket Team in the Bishops College.The Vicar,
Rev. Fr. Varghese Pynadathu thanked him for his contributions to
the Kolkata Parish during his stay in the city for four years. As
a token of appreciation, Rev. Fr. K.P. Aleaz handed over a memento
to the Deacon on behalf of the Parish. In his reply speech, Rev.
Dn. Kuriakose appreciated the support and co-operation received by
him from the members of the parish.

Gregorian Meditation Centre at Anikkadu to be Consecrated Soon
ANIKKADU/MALLAPPALLY: The construction work of Gregorian
Meditation Centre, part of the proposed Retreat-cum- Conference
Centre at Anikkadu, Mallappally, a project of Niranam Diocese is
almost complete. This year's Feet Washing Service was conducted by
the diocesan Metropolitan Mor Coorilos Geevarghese at this centre.
The consecration of the meditation centre-cum open chapel will be
held soon. The proposed Retreat centre of Niranam diocese is being
constructed on a serene and beautiful hill top, about 2.5 acres of
land, donated to the diocese by Vadakkedathu Pannikottu Family from
Puramattam St. George Jacobite Syrian Church. Near the chapel, we
have already constructed an office-cum residence for Adminsitration.
The proposed plan is to build a modern conference hall with
facilities also for a residence complex that would accommodate
about 100 people. We request your prayers and support for this
project.

Pre-Assembly of the NCCI in Chennai
CHENNAI: The
National Council of Churches in India held it's Dalit Pre-Assembly
Meeting at the Church Women Centre in Gurukul Lutheran Theological
Seminary Campus, Chennai from 20-22 April 2012. The Assembly was
organized by the Commission on Dalit Concerns of the National
Council of Churches in India. Dr. Mor Coorilos Geevarghese,
Metropolitan of Niranam Diocese and member of the NCCI Ex.Committee,
presented a paper on the theme of the Pre_Assmbly, "Groans from the
Margins: Pathos, Protests and Progress". Rev. Dr. Augustine
Jayakumar, Dr. Deenabandhu Manchala, Dr. Daniel Premkumar, Rev.
Sundar Singh, Dr. Simon John, Rev. Philip Vinod Peacock and others
led various sessions. Rev. Sunil Raj Philip, Ex. Secretary of NCCI
Dalit Department was the chief coordinator of the Pre-Assembly.

Athanasius Elias, the Metropolitan of Qatar & Working President of
Anthyokhya Vishwasa Samrakshana Samithy (AVSS) visited Her
Excellency Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa IFS, the Indian Ambassador to the
State of Qatar at the Indian Embassy, here in Doha. Dr. Athanasius
thanked His Highness the Emir of Qatar, Hamad Bin Khaleefa Al Thani,
the Government of Qatar, Indian Embassy for the help they kindly
extended to the Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church and community in
Doha, Qatar. Mor Athanasius promised Her Excellency to extend the
help to support the poor and needy expatriates who come back to
Kerala. Her Excellency the Ambassador & Staff of the Embassy gave a
warm welcome to Dr. Athanasius Metropolitan and the delegation from
the Doha St. James JSO Church, which included its Vicar, Fr. Eldhose
Cherian Nammanali, Shri. Joshi Andrews (Vice President) & Chev. K V
Samuel Karimpukalayil.

Club at St. Mary’s JSO Church, Poothamkutty in connection with
the feast of St.George on 6th May, 2012. Parents’
Club is intended to maintain tranquil and healthy family
relationship in the parish. “To foster the values of the kingdom
of God among families and individuals, the formation of Parents’
club will be decisive and instrumental now-a-days”-Fr. Alias Ipe
Parackal, the Vicar puts it. “Jesus Christ, our Lord and
Saviour born in a family matrix and revealed how serene should
be our family relationships...”-he added. Parents would meet in
regular intervals to weigh up and fortify their multifaceted
involvements in Church activities at large.

ആരാധനനടത്താന്അനുമതി നല്കിയ നടപടി പക്ഷപാതപരമാണെന്ന് യാക്കോബായ വിഭാഗം
പത്രസമ്മേളനത്തില്ആരോപിച്ചു. ഓര്ത്തഡോക്സ് വിഭാഗത്തിന് ശനിയാഴ്ച
ഏഴിന്മേല് കുര്ബാന നടത്താന് അനുമതി നല്കിയ കളക്ടറുടെ നടപടി
നിയമലംഘനമാണ്. സഭാതര്ക്കം സംബന്ധിച്ച് ഏത് മധ്യസ്ഥന്റെ മുമ്പിലും ചര്ച്ചയ്ക്ക്
തയ്യാറാണെന്ന് സഭാ സെക്രട്ടറി തമ്പു ജോര്ജ് തുകലന് പറഞ്ഞു.
നിലവിലെ കോടതിവിധികളും തത്സ്ഥിതിയും അവഗണിച്ചാണ് ഓര്ത്തഡോക്സ്
വിഭാഗത്തിന് അനുമതി നല്കിയത്. മാനേജിങ് ട്രസ്റ്റി, പള്ളി വികാരി
എന്നിവരുടെ ഭാഗം കേള്ക്കാതെയാണ് കളക്ടറുടെ നടപടി. വിഷയം ചര്ച്ച
ചെയ്യുന്നതിനായി 12ന് വിളിച്ച യോഗത്തില് യാക്കോബായ സഭാ പ്രതിനിധികള്
പങ്കെടുത്തുവെന്ന കലക്ടറുടെ വാദം തെറ്റാണ്. പള്ളിയുടെ കൈവശക്കാരനായ
ട്രസ്റ്റിയെ യോഗവിവരം അറിയിച്ചില്ല. യോഗതീരുമാനങ്ങളുടെ പകര്പ്പ്
പള്ളിക്ക് നല്കിയതുമില്ല.ഹൈക്കോടതിയുടെ പരിഗണനയിലിരിക്കുന്ന വിഷയത്തില്
തീരുമാനമെടുത്ത നടപടികോടതിയലക്ഷ്യമാണ്.1974 മുതല് നിലവിലുള്ള കേസുകളില്
ഒരു കോടതിയും അനുവദിക്കാത്ത ആനുകൂല്യമാണ് കലക്ടര് ഓര്ത്തഡോക്സ്
വിഭാഗത്തിന് നല്കിയതെന്നും യാക്കോബായ വിഭാഗം ആരോപിച്ചു.കലക്ടറുടെ
നടപടിക്കെതിരെ 21ന് യാക്കോബായ സഭയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തില് സമാധാനപരമായ
പ്രതിഷേധം സംഘടിപ്പിക്കും. വിശ്വാസികള് പീഡിപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടാല്
നോക്കിനില്ക്കാന് സഭയ്ക്കാവില്ലെന്ന് സഭാ സെക്രട്ടറി തമ്പു ജോര്ജ്
തുകലന് പറഞ്ഞു. വിശ്വാസികള് പടുത്തുയര്ത്തിയ പള്ളികളും സ്വത്തുക്കളും
കൈവശപ്പെടുത്താനുള്ള നീക്കം അനുവദിക്കില്ലെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു.പള്ളി

Switzerland:
The former vicar of St Mary's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church,
Switzerland and the newly consecrated Metropolitan H. G. Dr. Mor
Anthimos Mathews was felicitated in a public meeting after the
Easter Holy Qurbana. H. G. Mor Anthimos arrived Switzerland on
30th March for the Holy Week Services.The meeting was presided
over by the Vicar Rev. Fr. Prince Poulose and Church Secretary
Mr. Thomas Kakkattu, Treasurer Mr. Saji Padickakudy, Mr. Babu
Mathew, Mr. Avirachan kanjirakkattu, Mr. Saju Mathew,Mrs.
Aleyamma Mathew, Mrs. Lissy Monzee, Ms. Muth Kakkattu spoke on
the occassion highlighting the pastoral ministry of H. G. Mor
Anthimos while he was the Vicar of the church. The church handed
overgifts as a token of love and appreciation on his new
appointment. Mr. Thomas Kakkattu extended the welcomespeech and
Mr. Saji padickakudy the Vote of Thanks.

മിഖായേല് യാക്കോബായ സുറിയാനി പള്ളിയുടെ പള്ളിയുടെ സണ്ഡേ സ്കൂള്
ക്ളാസില് യാക്കോബായ സഭാംഗങ്ങളായ അധ്യാപകരെയും വിദ്യാര്ഥികളെയും
ഓര്ത്തഡോക്സ് വിഭാഗം ക്രൂരമായി മര്ദ്ദിച്ചു.പള്ളിയുടെ
സമീപത്തുള്ള മന്ദിരത്തില് ഇന്നലെ ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് രണ്ടു
മണിയോടെയായിരുന്നു സംഭവം. പരുക്കേറ്റ മാമലശേരി സ്വദേശികളായ മുകളേല്
ഷാജു(50), വടക്കേത്തടത്തില് ഡോളി ജോര്ജ്(35), തണ്ടാപ്പിള്ളില്
ജോളി ജോസ്(54), കരോട്ടുപുത്തന്പുരയില് ഗ്രീഷ്മ(19) എന്നിവരെ പിറവം
ഗവ. ആശുപത്രിയില് പ്രവേശിപ്പിച്ചു.സംഭവവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട്
മാമലശേരി തെങ്ങുംതോട്ടത്തില് ബിജു(44)വിനെ രാമമംഗലം പൊലീസ്
അറസ്റ്റു ചെയ്തു. ഒാഫിസിലെ അലമാരകളും തല്ലിത്തകര്ത്തതായി
ആശുപത്രിയില് കഴിയുന്നവര് പറഞ്ഞു. ഇതിനു ശേഷവും സ്കൂള് പരിസരത്തു
നിന്നിരുന്ന ഇയാളെ പൊലീസ് എത്തി കീഴ്പ്പെടുത്തുകയായിരുന്നു.

ANGAMALY: The
first Saturday observation along with Parish Day celebrations of the
St.Mary’s JSO Church, Poothamkutty, Angamaly will be held on 5th
& 6th May 2012
respectively. Holy Qurbana will be held on Saturday, the 5th
May at 8.15 am followed by Special intercessory prayers to St.Mary's,
Mother of God. Rev.Fr. Alias Ipe Parackal, the Vicar will lead the
service. Special prayers for the sick and afflicted will be held
during the Holy Qurbana. On Sunday, the 6th May Parish Day
celebrations will be inaugurated soon after the Holy Qurbana at.8.15
a.m. A galaxy of colourful events will take place including Grand
Finale of various competitions already conducted in each and every
Parish prayer Units. Winners of the preliminary round competitions
are eligible for the final round and the winners of the final round
will get fabulous prizes. The best unit will be selected on the
basis of various spiritual and humanitarian activities conducted in
respective units in the yester year.

reception was given on the Easter day and H. G. Mor Anthimos was
guest for the Easter celebrations.Mor Anthimos led a short

asked the faithful to empty the evil attitudes inorder to lead a

news saying District Collector has given permission for "Indian
Orthodox Group" to conduct a meeting at Piravom St. Mary's JSO
Cathedral on 21st of this month. They also mentioned that this
decision came as per the meeting Collector had with both
parties. But truth remains that no such meeting has happened and
collector have not given any permission for "Indian Orthodox
group" to come even near to the church compound.

Kandanad: The annual General Body of Malankara Jacobite Syrian
Sunday School Association(MJSSA), Kandanad Diocese held at Sakralla
Mor Baselios Centre, Kandanad on 25th March 2012. Diocesan
Metropolitan H.G.Dr.Mathews Mor Ivanios inaugurated the Meeting.
V.Rev.Saju Cheruvullil(MJSSA Vice-President) presided over the
function. Mr.P.I.Kuriakose(Diocese Director) presented the
accounts, budget etc. Sri.M.V.Yacob(Diocese Secretary) presented the
Annual reports. H.G.Dr.Mathews Mor Ivanios give away the prizes

Consecration of the first phase of the building os Santhwana
Guidance & Councelling Centre, a dream project of the malankara
Jacobite Syrian Christian Church at Vellore has been held on 24th
March 2012. The Holy ceremony was led by H.B Baseliose Thomas 1st
Catholicose and assisted by Metropolitan H.G Mor Gregoriose
Joseph,the secretary of Malankara Synod, H.G Mor Alexandrios
Thomas,under whose guidance and patronage the centre has been
founded.The public function held soon after the holy ceremony was
inaugrated by H.B Baseliose Thomas 1st Catholicose and presided over
by the H.G Joseph Gregoriose Metropolitan.A souvenir related to the
founding & functioning of the Santhwana Centre was released by Dr.
Jacob Jose the Medical Superintendent of Vellore Christian Medical
Centre (C.M.C.). Earlier the welcome speech was delivered by the
director & mentor of the ‘Sathwana Centre’ Mor Alexandrios Thomas
Metropolitan. Many number of Church members and well-wishers in and
around the place attended the ceremonies

Moral & Ethical Values for Men inaugurated at Poothamkutty, Angamaly
Angamaly:
Under the aegis of Youth Members, “NANMA”- an association for
investing Moral and Ethical values for Men has been inaugurated at
Poothamkutty, Angamaly. The inaugural function was held with a
galaxy of colourful programmes including Gaanasandhya, a cultural
evening for displaying intrinsic talents of the young minds.
Mr.Prajeesh, Kumari Eliyakutty Antony,Mrs. Deleela Thomas,Aby Elias
and Mr.Eldhose Alias spoke on this auspicious occasion. Rev. Fr.
Jacob Cherikathadam inaugurated the function lighting the lamp.

Meeting of Old Friends of PRO ORIENTE, Vienna 29-30 March
2012
VIENNA: In view
of the 50th anniversary of the opening of the 2nd Vatican
Council some participants of the first unofficial Consultations
and Study Seminars of PRO ORIENTE with theologians of the Roman
Catholic and the Oriental Orthodox Churches took the initiative
for a small meeting in Vienna. The idea was to discuss how the
ecumenical process between the Catholic Church and the Oriental
Orthodox Churches that had started in Vienna soon after the 2nd
Vatican Council with great success but in the meantime slowed
down, could gain back its former dynamics. The participants
were convinced that the reception and implementation of the
agreements of the past 40 years by the churches concerned has
to be resumed. The common opinion of the participants of the
meeting was that unity in faith among Christians could not wait
till all theological questions between Churches would be wholly
solved. Unity as a term is loaded with fears and historical
memories. One should prefer to speak of cooperation. The oneness
of the Church in the Holy Spirit is already given. Realistic
targets could be regular meetings of the local bishops of
different Churches, common events and celebrations, and may be
even a Round Table of the heads of the different Churches.
Concrete proposals were made how PRO ORIENTE and the
participants of this meeting could set in move and accelerate
some necessary steps for the reception, acceptance and
implementation of the agreements already achieved in the past.
The participants of the meeting agreed to start a special
Study Group on Models of visible Unity in the framework of PRO
ORIENTE and to meet again from 9-10 November 2012 in Beirut,
Lebanon.
The participants were:
