9th Oct 2011 : The
inaugural ceremony for the Youth Sunday classes on Faith, tradition
and Liturgy was held on 9th Oct 2011 in the presence of H.G Patros
Mor Osthathios, Very. Rev Fr.K.V Kuriakose Core Episcopa & Rev
Fr.Jacob Joseph and Deacon Aji. The inauguration was coupled with
the onam celebration after the holy mass which started at 8:45AM.
Sunday school students threw flowers on the way and Thirumeni was
greeted with a garland following which the welcome speech was
delivered by the Youth secretary Tony Mathai .Fr.Jacob Joseph gave a
briefing about the intention of conducting the seminars. Youth
representative Geedhu handed over a bouquet to welcome Thirumeni.
Thirumeni, Velyachan and Saji achan lit the lamp and thirumeni
inaugurated the ceremony by revealing the bookmarks that were
printed for this purpose. The bookmarks were distributed to all
those who were present for the ceremony.
This was followed by the Onam celebration which was conducted in the
Parish hall. Onam celebration started of with a few entertaining
games conducted by Youth association members Shiju and Basil. Kids
were entertained with “Bursting the balloons” and “Musical chair”
and Sunday school student Alan was the winner for both the events.
Members of St.Marys league took part in the “Musical chair”
competition and Jhansy Roby was the winner. The final event was a
very refreshing and entertaining event held for couples wherein
husband was blindfolded and asked to apply makeup for his wife. Roby
and Jhansy emerged victorious.
By 12:30 the hall was set up for lunch and the prize distribution
for winners took place simultaneously. The program came to an end by
1:30pm and all of them returned home with filled tummies and happy
faces.

Honorable Kerala Court bench with Justice Ram Kumar and
Justice Beurkhath Ali ordered in favour of Jacobite
Syrian Orthodox church in the case filed by Indian
Orthodox group for implementing 1934 at Puthencruz St.
Peter's and St. Paul's JSO church. Court handled over
the full ownership of this parish to JSOC. Court also
commented that constitution of 1934 is not applicable to
the administration of parish churches in Malankara and
removed the status- co in that parish and handed over
the church to Jacobite Syrian Orthodox church.

Senior priest of
the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Vice president of Paurasthya
Suvishesha Samajam (EAE), Vicar General of EAE Churches in Karnataka
and Vicar of St. George Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church
Narasimharajapura - Very. Rev. Cor - Episcopo A V Jacob was
decorated as "Kohano Kasheero" by the Supreme Head of the Syrian
Orthodox Church His Holiness Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas Patriarch.
Born on 8th June 1932 as the eldest son of Shri Varghese and Smt.
Eliyamma of Arakkal family from Mookannoor in Angamaly diocese of
Malankara Church, Very Rev achen's family was one of the first
migrants to the state of Karnataka in the 1940's. After he was
ordained as deacon in 1954, he pursued his priestly formation and
theological studies at Manjanikkara Dayara under late lamented Mor
Yulios Elias of blessed memory. He was ordained as priest in May
1956 by Mor Yulios and appointed as Vicar of St. George JSO Church,
Narasimharajapura in Karnataka. Since then, his life has been one of
dedication towards the Holy Church. Very Rev Achen was instrumental
in the establishment of five churches in Chickmagalore district of
Karnataka state and also played an important role in the missionary
activities of the Paurasthya Suvishesha Samajam (EAE) in Karnataka
and Kerala. Very Rev Achen did not limit himself to the spiritual
upliftment alone of the folk under his pastoral care. He dedicated
himself to the social, educational and economical upliftment of his
folk. Even at this advanced age of 80 years, he can be seen working
enthusiastically towards fulfilling the pastoral responsibilities
given to him.
In recognition of his dedicated service to the Holy Church, he was
elevated as Cor- Episcopo by Late lamented Mor Baselios Paulose II
Catholicose of blessed memory in 1985.
MSV congratulates Very Rev. Cor - Episcopa Achen on being decorated
by His Holiness and pray for his long life and good health.

Mor Coorilos Given A Warm Farewell by UK Diocese.

Bristol: The Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orhtodox Church, United
Kingdom Region gave a warm farewell to its former Patriarchal Vicar,
Mor Coorilos Geevarghese. A meeting was organized to bid farewell to
Mor Coorilos at Bristol St. Baselius Eldho Jacobite Church on
Sunday, the 2nd of October. Mor Aphrem Mathews, the new Patriarchal
Vicar of UK presided over the function. Mor Osathathios Isaac,
Metropolitan of Mylapore and Delhi inaugurated the farewell meeting.
Fr. Raju Cheruvillil, Fr. Geevarghese Thandayath, Fr. Thomas
Puthiyamadam, Fr. Peter Kuriakose, Fr. Babu Peringol, Fr. Gibi
itchikottil, Fr. Sibi Adimaly, Fr. Prince Mannathoor, Mr. Gibi
Andrews and representatives from 22 churches and congregations in
the UK region spoke on the occasion. Gifts from the UK Council and
churches and congregations were handed over to Mor Ccorilos. In his
reply speech, Mor Coorilso thanked every one for their support and
prayers.
All the speakers appreciated the dynamic leadership of Mor Coorilos
in facing times of crisis. "During the tenure of Mor Coorilos, the
UK Region witnessed tremendous growth. From 11 congregations, the
number of congregations went upto 22. The three family conferences
held during this period were examples of the oneness and stability
of the church in the UK. The Jubilee memorial Souvenir which
documents the history of the Syrian Jacobite Church in the UK, with
articles on fundamental faith and traditions of the Church and
pictures of congregations and members, was a significant achievement
in the history of UK church. When the Church in UK encountered
problems from rebels and dissidents, Mor Coorilos took strong
actions which brought discipline and consolidation in the Church.
Members from the dissident faction who were holding offices in our
congregations were removed. Members were required to declare their
allegiance to the Holy Throne of Antioch. A unified syllabus for
Sunday school thorught out UK has been another milestone. Most of
the churches and congregations in the UK could conduct passion week
services during the last two years, with the help of priests from
Kerala. Retreats led by Mor Philexnos Zacharias in various churches
were also a highlight. In every aspect, the UK Region of the
Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox now has a strong foundation"',
Fr. Geevarghese Thandayathu, UK region Secretary highlighted some of
the important achievements of Mor Coorilos' tenure as Patriarchal
Vicar, in his vote of thanks.

of the U. K region. The Holy Bull of the Patriarch of Antioch and

former Patriarchal Vicar of U.K. Mor Aphrem Mathews, Patriarchal
Vicar of U.K and the Vice president of SEUSOMM, U.K chapter presided
over the function and Mor Osthathios Isaac, Ptarirachal Vicar of
Kuwait and Metropolitan of Delhi and Mylapore delivered blessing
speech.The message of Greetings from His Eminence Mor Clemis Eugene
Kaplan was also read out. Fr. Babu Peringol, the Secretary General
of SEUSOMM welcomed the gathering and introduced the work of the
Mission. Fr. Raju Cheruvillil, Fr. Geevarghese Thandayathu, Fr.

The three day mega
event of Kollam Diocese Sunday School came to an end yesterday at St
Peters JSS Cathedral Thiruvananthapuram. The camp was well attended
by students and teachers from all over the diocese. Eminent resource
persons took class on various subjects. The concluding ceremony was
blessed by HG Mor Theodosius Mathews. Kollam Diocese Secretary Mr.
Rajan Varghese welcomed the gathering and the meeting was presided
by Metropolitan. Mr Baby Mathara, Gen Secretary MJSSA spoke on the
occasion. Felicitations were done by Rev. Fr. Reji Mathew, Asst
Vicar, Mr. Elias Cherian, Parish Secretary, Mr. Chacko, District
Inspector MJSSA and Mr. Varghese Jacob, Parish MJSSA Headmaster.
Rev. Fr. Sabu Samuel , Director MJSSA Kollam Diocese proposed the
vote of thanks. Rev. Fr. Anish T Varghese gave the farewell address.
Harvest festival at st. Thomas JSOC Annanagar, Chennai.
Chennai: Harvest
Festival 2011 is planned to conduct at Church premises on 09 Oct
2011 . There will be variety of food stalls of Kerala taste, many
skill games and auctions. Members , their families and friends are
requested to participate. The Church committee along with the Church
spiritual organizations under the leadership of Fr. Aby Alias, Vicar
of the Church organizing the entire activities.

Chennai : A two day
campus VBS was organized by St. Thomas Sunday School of St. Thomas
JSO Church, Annanagar, Chennai from 4 to 6th Oct 2011 at
Shanthinagar ( Old age Home) of St. Thomas Charitable Trust. The
camp was inaugurated by Fr. Aby Alias, Vicar and the closing
ceremony was in the presence of Rev Fr. K John Corepiscopa, Fr. Aby
Alias and Fr. Geevarghese. The two day camp was fully benefitted to
the children and it would be the forerunner of the camps to be
organized for the coming years.

mega event Mor Sabor Afroth Camp which is the Study camp organized
by MJSSA Kollam diocese started at St. Peters Jacobite Syrian
Simhasana Cathedral on 05.10.11. After the Holy Qurbana celebrated
by Rev. Fr. Sabu Samuel , Director Kollam Diocese Sunday School,
flag hoisting was done by Rev.Fr.Geevarghese Blaheth,Vice President
Sunday School Kollam Diocese. The formal inauguration meeting was
presided by Rev. Fr. Anish T Varghese and welcomed by Rev. Fr. Sabu
Samuel. Inaugural blessing and lighting of the lamp was done by H.G
Mor Theodosius Mathews, Metropolitan of Kollam Diocese.Rev. Fr.
Geevarghese Blaheth, Prof.Dr.Jose D. Kaipallil, Secretary MJSSA, Mr.
George Zachariah, Trustee St Peters JSS Church and Mr. Kuruvila
George, MJSSA Central Committee Member felicitated the gathering.
Mor Sabor Afroth camp is a unique event in MJSSA. This is the fifth
consecutive year that the camp is being conducted under the able
leadership of Rev. Fr. Sabu Samuel who is the Director of Kollam
MJSSA. The camp is for both students and Sunday school teachers.
Parallel and separate sessions are arranged for the two groups. This
year the camp theme is Acts 17:28 " For in Him, we live , we move
and we exist". The camp will conclude on 07.10.11.
Pre-Marriage Orientation Course Organized by Singapore Diocese of
the Jacobite Syrian Church on 8th October.
Pre-marriage
Orientation Course for young adults of the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox
Churches in and around Singapore/Malaysia will be held at the St.
Mary's Jacobite Syrian Church, Singapore on 8th October. This is to
prepare the young adults of the church for marriage/family.
Pre-Marriage Course is compulsory for every Jacobite Men/Women for
their marriage. But many of the young adults express the
difficulties to attend the course in Kerala due to the lack of
leaves and busy marriage schedule. Recently married couples also can
attend the course.

Vicar to Ireland H G Kuriakose Mor Eusebius Thirumeni has visited
Ireland and celebrated the Holy Qurbana at St. Gregorios Syrian

Geevarghese Thomas Chattathil of the Malankara Archdiocese of the
Syrian orthodox Church in North America was elevated to the rank of
Corepiscopos on Saturday September 24th, 2011 at St. Mary's Syrian
Orthodox Church in West Nyack, New York. Our Archbishop Mor Titus
Yeldho, the Archbishop and Patriarchal Vicar of the Malankara
Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in USA was the chief
celebrant of the Cermony. Hundreds of faithful including Venerable
Corepiscopos, Respected Priests, Deacons and members from various
parishes from the Tri state area and other parts of the United
States attended the event. Rev. Fr. Geevarghese Thomas Chattathil
the former Vice President of the Association of the Protection of
Antiochean True Faith (2008-2010) is currently the Vicar of the St.
Mary’s Church, West Nyack, New York and the St. James Church in
Livingston, New Jersey. He is also leading Holy Service at United
Christian Fellowship (UCF) in Albany, the capital city of New York
State, once a month.

The annual feast of St. Baseliose
Eldho was celebrated on September 30th and October 1st at St.
Basil's Syrian Orthodox Church in Boston. Archbishop and Patriarchal
vicar of Malankara Archdiocese of SOC in North America, H.E. Mor
Titus Yeldho led the celebration and liturgy, assisted by vicar,
Rev. Fr.Geevarghese Jacob and Rev. Fr. Punnoose Abraham, Dn. Moncy
Jacob, Dn. Benny John, and Dn. Anup Kuruvilla. H.E. recognized Rev.
Fr. Punnoose Abraham of the Knanaya diocese, and presented the
memento for his dedicated and sincere service to the St. Basil's SOC
Boston and the Syriac Orthodox community in Boston. From the
inception of the St. Basil's SOC-Boston on August 30th, 2009, Rev.
Fr. Punnoose Abraham has been instrumental in leading the services
at St. Basil's SOC-Boston and in full filling the spiritual needs of
its members in the absence of the Vicar.

Chennai on 2nd October. The camp was inaugurated by Fr. Aby Alias,
Vicar of Church. The Camp will conclude on 6th October.

Singapore Organized Blood Donation Drive
Singapore: Mor
Ignatious Youth Association Organized blood donation drive with
the support of Red Cross and Health Authority of Singapore on
2nd October Sunday. About 30 members went for the drive from the
Singapore Jacobite Church. Also different Malayalee Associations
take part in this event with MIYA Singapore. More than 70 units
collected on the particular camp. It was the first time the
church organize such an event and the red cross staff convey
their regards to the community. Vicar appreciate the effort of
the church members to help others and ask them keep support for
the future donation programs too.

FLASH: Court mentioned that
Church cases cannot be settled through court and added that history
of these cases proves the same. Asked both parties to cooperate with
Government Mediation Committee to resolve the issues. Court refused
to pronounce any sort of verdict at this stage & postponed the next
session of this case to November 2nd. Church will remain closed till
Nov 2nd.
Kollenchery Church issue is a religious faith matter – Kerala High
Court. As religious faith matter is the core issue of Kollenchery
Church, Court cannot give any verdict. Therefore it is better to
settle the issue through mutual dialog between both parties or
through third party mediation. – Kerala High Court.
