H.E. Mor Eustathius Matta Roham congratulated Lutheran priest Prof. Manfred Wagner for his great contribution in Ecumenical movement

SOUTH GERMANY: A grand get together in honour of Professor H. C. Manfred Wagner, a priest of the Lutheran Church who is retiring after serving for 23 years and who has been very active in the field of Ecumenical relationship between Orthodox churches and the Lutheran church, was held in Reutlingen, near Stuttgart in Baden-Württemberg, South-Germany. A number of bishops from various Orthodox churches all over the world attended the Holy Mass offered during the occasion. H.E. Mor Eustathius Matta Roham the Archbishop of Jezira and the Euphrates in Syria represented the Syriac Orthodox Church. Among the other bishops who attended the function includes the Russian Orthodox bishops from Russia & Poland, Greek-Orthodox bishop of Germany, Bishop from the Ecumenical patriarchate, Romanian Orthodox Bishop etc.; many more Orthodox as well as Lutheran bishops were also present on the occasion.

Rev. Dn. (Dr.) Josef Önder represented the Syriac Orthodox Church of Germany who spoke on behalf of Bishop H.E. Mor Julius Hanna Aydin and congratulated the retired priest for his exemplary works among the various Christian communities. Prof. Manfred Wagner’s ecumenical activities which is being greatly applauded, was not limited to Germany alone, but the whole of Europe and Middle East. As part of his mission he has been a frequent visitor to many nations including Poland, the Balkan countries: Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania, Russia, Georgia, Syria, etc. In his concluding speech Father Wagner has warned that though we are now closer, "there is much to do in order to overcome cultural, ethnic and sectarian trenches." Last year, he was appointed an honorary professor at the Orthodox Theological Faculty of the University of Babes-Bolyai in Romania for his "contribution to ecumenical relations and international understanding".

New Director for Youth Mission of Ankamaly region of Ankamaly Diocese.

ANGAMALY: Rev. Fr. Alias Ipe Parackal has been nominated as Regional Director for Youth Mission of the Ankamaly Region of the Ankamaly diocese. The meeting held at St.Mary’s Jacobite Syrian Soonoro Church, Ankamaly was chaired by the Regional Metropolitan H.G.Dr. Abraham Mor Severios. Under the aegis of Ankamaly Regional Committee, there will be 7 directorates which will be focusing on 7 different desks such as Child &Teenage Mission, Youth Mission, Ladies Wing, Old Age Mission, Eco Mission, Family Mission and De-addiction Mission. Regional Secretary Sri.T.M.Varghese presented the various Mission aspects of Ankamaly Region which will be put in to practice in the days to come. V. Rev. Titus Varghese Cor-episcopa, V.Rev. Geevarghese Arackal cor-episcopa, Rev.Fr.Varghese Areeckal spoke on the occasion. Rev.Fr. Paulose Arackaparambil rendered the vote of thanks. Priests from Ankamaly Region attended the meeting.

GENEVA: The International Review of Mission marked a century of work in mission studies with a public celebration, held 9 December at Philip Potter Library of the World Council of Churches (WCC), centered on its centenary issue, just released. The omnibus issue, “A Century of Ecumenical Missiology,” features 15 commissioned articles assessing the history of the journal, the evolution of the field, and the prospects and shape of its future. Rev. Dr Jooseop Keum, IRM editor since 2008, led the celebrations by presenting a congratulatory copy of the issue to WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit and offering tributes to longtime journal contributors Rev. Jacques Matthey (editor from 1999 to 2007, and guest editor of the centenary issue), Prof. Andrew Walls (who has contributed the annual bibliographical survey for 40 years), book review editor Prof. Paul Isaak, and staffer Marlise Freidig. Participants and guests were welcomed by Metropolitan Geevarghese Mor Coorilos, Syrian Orthodox Bishop of Nirinam, India, and moderator of the WCC’s Commission on World Mission and Evangelism, the journal’s sponsor.

Referring to the “landmark” occasion, Coorilos said, “IRM, over the last 100 years, has influenced thousands of missiologists, mission bodies and churches through its profound discussion of missiological issues. Even at the age of 100, IRM continues to provide us with inspiration and challenge.” In his remarks, Tveit spoke of the impressive longevity of IRM, which at 100 years still maintains its relevance and brings vitality to the ongoing discussions and discernment about mission and evangelism. The influential journal, a WCC publication produced in partnership with Wiley-Blackwell, of Oxford, England, was initiated in 1912. Its first editor, J. H. Oldham, was secretary of the historic 1910 world missionary conference in Edinburgh, after which the International Review of Missions, as it was then tagged, was launched. This current issue takes a close look at the origins of the journal in the context of nascent ecumenism, as well as at the decisions and directions by which it shaped the field in the ensuing decades. It also offers specific surveys of the present landscape of mission and theological proposals for rethinking the mission endeavor. A panel presentation featured Matthey’s introduction of the issue, Walls’s analysis of the massive shifts in global Christianity in the last century, and Keum’s ideas of key theological questions that the journal will explore in coming years.

DUBAI: Mor Ignatius Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Cathedral Dubai participated in Chimes of Peace 2011, the largest ecumenical Carol singing in United Arab Emirates organized by YMCA Dubai. The Choir under the leadership of the Vicar, Rev. Fr. Boby G Varghese & Choir Master Mr. Sabu Mathew performed in Sheikh Rashid Auditorium, Al Karama on 9th December 2011. Asianet's Santa Yathra was also given a warm welcome during the event.

DELHI: Parliamentarian's get together was held on 7th of December at Constitution Hall, New Delhi. H.G.Issac Mor Osthatheos Metropolitan of Mylapore and Delhi represented Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church. central Ministers and Members of Parliament from Kerala and other states attended the programme. The programme was conducted by Indo International Christian Chamber of Commerce. Bishops representing various Churches in India also were participants.

ANGAMALY: Under the auspices of St.Mary’s Youth League, Poothamkutty CHARITY YEAR- 2012, a venture for helping the poor and needy will be inaugurated on Sunday, the 18th December, 2011. The Youth League headed by the Vicar Rev.Fr.Alias Ipe Parackal will visit Charity institutions in the days to come at regular intervals. To mark the beginning of Charity year programme, the team will visit Orphanage at Kothamangalam which is run by the Church. The team will arrange special prayers for all those who are involved in Charity work at large and sponsor one day’s Dinner.

On Saturday November 27,2011, Mor Gregorious Syriac Orthodox Student Association(MGSOSA) of the Northeast Region of North America hosted its quarterly one day youth retreat. This years theme for the Fall retreat was based on Psalms 3: 5-6, "Trust in the LORD with all your hear and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." This retreat was attended by youth members of various Churches in the Maryland, Washington D.C., Philadelphia and Tristate area. This retreat was blessed with keynote messages from Archbishop H.E. Mor Theethose Yeldho and Rev. Dn. Belson Kuriakose. Various workshops were also held and led by Rev. Dn. Joel Jacob and Rev. Dn. Shiryl Mathai on topics related to this theme.

Prayer and condolence meeting held at kolkata St. Mary's JSOC.

KOLKATA: St. Mary's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church in Kolkata conducted a prayer meeting and a condolence meeting on Friday, the 9th December 2011, in memory of those who died in the devastating fire occurred in the Dhakuria Unit of the AMRI Hospital in Kolkata. Rev. Fr. Johnykutty of the Jacobite Syriac Church, who is a Senior Research Scholar with the Bishops College in Kolkata, gave the leadership for the evening programme. Immediately after the evening prayer, special prayer was offered in the Church in memory those who died and also for the speedy recovery of those who got injured in the fire.

Former Patriarchal Vicar for Kuwait, and the Metropolitan of the Kollam Diocese, H.G. Mathews Mor Theodocius was the Chief Celebrant. Parish Vicar Rev. Fr. Sajan T. John also spoke on this occasion. St. George Universal Syrian Orthodox Reesh Church was elevated as Reesh Church (Valiya Pally) on December 3, 2010 by the Patriarch of Antioch, H.H. Ignatius Zakka Ist Iwas during the tenure of H.G. Mathews Mor Theodocius as the Patriarchal Vicar of Kuwait. St. George Reesh Church is one of the biggest parishes of the Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church in the Middle East with more than 2000 individual members.

International Syriac Medical Association (ISMA) Medical Camp started at Idukki

DAMASCUS/IDUKKI: The Medical Camp organised by The International Syriac Medical Association (ISMA), started at Idukki on Wednesday. His Holiness Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas started this Association of Doctors, Nurses and other Medical Professionals in 2010 to help the poor people around the world. ISMA has activities in more than 80 countries now. The camp concludes on 15th Dec. The Association consists of around 1500 Doctors, Surgeons, Nurses and Other Medicos around the globe. Smt. Jessy Thuruthummel of St. Peter's & St. Paul's JSO Church, Kizhakkambalam is the Coordinator for India. Many of the edicos from Malankara are already members of this Association.

The public function marking the conclusion of silver jubilee celebrations held on 4 December 2011. Vicar Rev. Fr. Jisho Alumkal welcomed the gathering. Diocesan bishop H.G. Kuriakose Mor Diaskoros metropolitan gave the presidential address. The meeting has been inaugurated by Muvattupuzha M.L. A. Mr. Joseph Vazhakkan. Niranam diocesan bishop H.G. Dr. Geevarghese Mor Coorilose metropolitan blessed the audience with keynote address. First committee members, former secretaries of MINYA, career achievers Dr. Ignatious Abraham (Ph.D. in Chemistry) and Basil C Baby (best Police Trainee, India reserve battalion) were honored by H.G. Dr. Coorilose metropolitan. Rev. Fr. Varghese Edumariyil, Fr. Paul T Padinjarethil, Mr. O. MEKKADAMPU: Mor Ignathiose Noorono Youth Association (MINYA) under Mor Ignathiose Noorono Syrian Simhasana Church conducted “haritha sayahnam” – an environment awareness program on 4 December 2011, SUnday. Niranam diocesan bishop and President of SLOMO, H.G. Dr. Coorilose Geevarghese Metropolitan delivered an hour long lecture on “Holy Church, Youth and Environment”. His Grace touched upon various environmental issues and urged the youth to propagate the message of environment protection. There was a constructive interactive session with the bishop after the lecture. Many queries ranging from population explosion, building of skyscrapers and big roads to the recent burning Mullapperiyar issue were raised by the audience which, H.G. Dr. Coorilose answered and explained elegantly. A unit of the ecology commission of the Jacobite Syrian Christian church “SLOMO” has been inaugurated by His Grace. Later H.G. Geevarghese Mor Coorilose planted tree saplings in church premises.

Baby Mathew (Secretary, MINYA) presented a resolution requesting the authorities to lower the water level of Mullapperiyar Dam to 120 feet and to construct new environment friendly mini dams to protect the people. H.G. Coorilose metropolitan led a candle light vigil in front of the church expressing solidarity with Mullapperiyar agitations. Vicar Rev. Fr. Jisho Alumkal, Rev. Fr. Malabar Diocese Youth Association formed a new choir named "Shlomo"

MEENANGADI: Malabar Diocese Youth Association has organized new choir named "Shlomo" under the leadership of H.G Mor Zacharia Philexinose. 30 members were selected from a competition in which 79 participants were there. Diocean JSOYA Vice President Rev. Fr. Basil Kaduvakulangara, Rev. Fr. Shaijan Maruthala, Rev. Fr. George Nedumthallil, Secretary Elias P. V and other office bearers organized the function.

പിറവം: മാമ്മലശ്ശേരി മാര്‍ മിഖായേല്‍ പള്ളിയിലെ യാക്കോബായ വിശ്വാസികള്‍ ആരാധനാ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിനു വേണ്ടി സഹനസമരവും നിയമനടപടികളുമായി മുന്നോട്ടുപോകുമെന്ന് വികാരി ഫാ. വര്‍ഗീസ് പുല്ല്യാട്ടേല്‍ പത്രസമ്മേളനത്തില്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. 1998ലെ കോടതിവിധി സംബന്ധിച്ച ചില വസ്തുതകള്‍ അടുത്തയിടെയുണ്ടായ ഹൈക്കോടതി വിധിയുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ വെളിച്ചത്തായതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്നാണ് ഇതെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു. '98ലെ വിധി മുഴുവന്‍ ഇടവകക്കാര്‍ക്കും ബാധകമാണെന്നായിരുന്നു ഇക്കാലമത്രയുമുള്ള വിശ്വാസം.

NEW DELHI: Foreign Delegates under the leadership of Very Rev Numanud Allah Rabban visited St. Peter's Patriarchal Cathedral, the Eastern Cathedral of His Holiness Patriarch. The group consisting of 10 Syriac Orthodox faithful from Sweden is their on the way to Malankara. Vicar Fr. Varghese Paul Puthumanakudy and faithful welcomed the delegates.

PALLIKKARA: 20th Pallikkara Convention concluded. His Beatitude Catholicos of India, Dr. Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I gave the message in the last day of the convention. Thousands from Central Kerala attended the convention. Special Prayer for preventing disaster at Mullapperiyar was held. Fr. Bobby Jose, Fr. babu Varghese (Vicar), Fr. Eldhose Thelappillil, Fr. BANGALORE: Dr. Mor Coorilos Geevarghese, Metropolitan of Niranam diocese delivered the Inaugural speech at the seminar organised by the Department of Dalit and Tribal Concerns of the National Council of Churches in India, the BTESSE and the SCMI at the SCM Headquarters in Bangalore on November 18, 2011. PATHANAMTHITTA: MGJSM Thumpamon Region conducted a seminar at St. Marys Cathedral, Pathanamthitta on 13 November 2011. Diocesan secretary Fr. Joseph P. Varghese inaugurated the seminar at 2pm and MGJSM Regional Vice President Fr. Dr. Bency Mathew Kizhakkethil presided over the meeting.

Foundation Stone laid for Mor Athanasius Rehabilitation Centre (MARC)

KOCHI: Foundation Stone for Mor Athanasius Rehabilitation Center (MARC) for Mentally Challenged Children laid by His Beatitude Catholicos of India, Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I. H G Mor Aprem Mathews was the concelebrant of the ceremony. MARC is a joint endeavor of the churches of Perumbavoor region of Angamaly Diocese. Priests and representatives from different parishes of Perumbavoor region attended in the program. Fr. George Vayaliparambil is the appointed as the co-ordinater of MARC by H G Mor Mathews Aprem. Ver Rev. Alias Cor Episcopa Chettalathukulangara, Ver. Rev. George Cor Episcopa Mathottam, Fr. Reji Thekkinedathu Chev. Joy Thombra, Chev. Biju Chirakkunnathu and Chev. Adv. K O Alias was present in the public meeting.

MEKKADAMPU: Mor Ignatius Noorono Youth Association (MINYA) under Mor Ignatius Noorono Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Simhasana Church, Mekkadampu is celebrating its silver jubilee on 4th December 2011. Diocesan Bishop H.G. Mor Diascorus Kuriakose Metropolitan and H.G. Dr. Mor Coorilos Geevarghese Metropolitan will bless the day with Their Grace’s presence. Seminar, youth conference, inauguration of SHLOMO unit, charity activities, honoring former presidents and secretaries of MINYA and Divine musical feast are some of the attractions of silver jubilee celebrations.

As part of the Silver jubilee celebrations of MINYA, a “proclamation rally” was conducted on 27 November 2011 from Malecruz Dayaro to Mekkadampu. Abbot of the Dayara and diocesan bishop H.G. Mor Diascorus Kuriakose metropolitan led the prayers at the tomb of Late Lamented Baseliose Paulose II Catholicos. After delivering the inaugural message His Grace flagged off the rally from Malecruz Dayaro. The rally consisting of patriarchal flag bearing vehicles passed through Kolenchery, Kadamttam, Valakam, Kadathy, Rackadu and reached Mekkadampu church. At church, Vicar and President of MINYA, Fr. Jisho Alunkal led the concluding prayer and blessed the participants of the rally. Fr. Jisho Alumkal, Shri. M.T. Roy & Shri. N.T. Paulose (Rally Captains) and Shri. Baby Mathew (Secretary, MINYA) led the rally which proclaimed the faith and might of “Sons of Antioch” in Mekkadampu.

SHIMOGA, KARNATAKA: New congregation started under Honnavar St. Antony's Mission and dedicated to St. Mary's, at Hosanagara, Shimoga, Central Karnmataka, on November 30, Wednesday. Metropolitan Mor Anthonios Yaqu'b celebrated Holy Qurbono. Fr. Jose Churprabilm, Fr. Sunny John P J, Fr. Geevarghese assisted Metropolitan. Around 115 people attend for holy mass. Swargeeya Manna Retreat concluded at Amsterdam

AMSTERDAM: The retreat, Swargeeya Manna concluded at Amsterdam. Fr. Prince Mannathoor (Rome) led the retreat. His Eminence, Metropolitan of Holland, Dr. Mor Polycarpus Augene Aydin celebrated Holy Qurbono. Dr. Polycarpus gave a message in the beginning, followed by the retreat of Very Rev. Saliba Ramban of St. mary's Syriac Orthodox Church at Amsterdam.
