5th Dukhrono of
Mor Julius
Yeshu`Çiçek (1941 - 2005)
(The
first Archbishop of Central Europe & Benelux countries)
His
Eminence Mor Julius Yeshu` Çiçek was born in 1942 in
Upper Kafro, in Tur `Abdin (Southeast -Turkey) as
the son of Rev. Fr. Barsaumo and Sayde. At the age
of nine he joined the seminary at Dayro d’Kurkmo. He
was ordained as Sub-deacon in 1958. Later he joined
Mor Kurioakos Dayaro and administered Pastoral
services to Syriac and Armenian Christians
especially those who survived the Genocide of 1915.
In 1960 he became a novice and Lecturer of theology
in Mor Gabriel Dayaro, Tur 'Abdin. It was here that
he developed his skills in the art of Calligraphy
and he became famous for his handwriting. In 1977 he
was appointed as the Patriarchal Vicar of the newly
created Diocese of Central Europe and Benelux
countries and in 1979 was ordained Metropolitan by
HH Mor Ignatius Yakoub III Patriarch. His services
among the Syriac Diaspora and to the Syriac
literature will be remembered forever. He published
more that 120 books out of which 30 in his own
handwriting. On account of these activities, he was
awarded the honorific title ' Mor Yacoub Burd'ono by
HH Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas Patriarch in 1992. He
was awarded the Aram Prize for his contribution to
Syriac literature. His personal love for the church
in Malankara had no bounds. His contributions for
constructing the MSOT seminary and developing it as
a centre of learning and excellence are well known.
This Bright Star of the Syrian Orthodox Church left
us too early and entered his heavenly abode on Oct
29th, 2005. MSV joins the Syrian Orthodox faithful worldwide in
remembering Mor Julios Yeshu Çiçek on his Dukhrono.

handed over the position of " Malankara
Metropolitan" to Paulose Mar Milithios today
evening. The Malankara Metropolitan , who is to be
elected by the Malankara association was handed over
power, breaking the rules of their 1934 Bible.. It is
said that Mar Milithios will be converted as
Catholicose coming Monday.. The tradition of Metran
Kakshi's power hand over drama continues...
"Metran Kakshis" to keep up their tradition of
retirement drama and midnight power hand over.
As per confirmed reports, the Metran Kakshis are all
set to appoint their Catholicose - elect as the new
Malankara Metran today night. Malankara Metran who
is to be elected by the Malankara association will
be handed over power tonight by the incumbent
without any election. It is also said that the 1934
Constitution was found floating in 'Meenachilaar'
which is to be used only to wave in the face of
Jacobites.

London, Rt. Rev. Michael Colclough visits His Holiness at
Patriarchal Monastery

SAYYIDNAYA, DAMASCUS: Bishop of London Diocese of Anglican
Church, Rt. Rev. Michael Colclough visited His Holiness Patriarch
Ignatius Zakka I Iwas at St. Ephraim Patriarchal Monastery here on
October 25, Sunday. Bishop Michael was accompanied by his wife
Cynthea. Patriarchal Assistant and Director of Theological Seminary,
Metropolitan Mor Philoxenos Matthias Nayis joined His Holiness in
welcoming Bishop Michael to the Monastery. Bishop Michael, on behalf
of Archbishop of Canterbury and head of Universal Anglican
Community, Most Rev. Dr. Rowan Williams thanked His Holiness for the
ecumenical relations between two churches.
His Holiness
enquired about the recent visit of Archbishop Dr. Rowan Williams to
India. Bishop Michael visited Patriarchate to learn more about the
Syriac Orthodox Church, its belief, teachings, history and
doctrines. is on Bishop Michael will stay for a week in the
Monastery as the guest of Syriac Orthodox Church.

Metropolitan of Ranni & Outer Kerala Regions of the Archdiocese, Mor
Ivanios Kuriakose blessed the occasion with the presence. Priests of

The
Ambassador of Iraq to Greece visits the Syrian Orthodox Church in
Athens, Greece
ATHENS, GREECE: The
Iraqi ambassador in Greece, His Excellency Prof. Burhanuddin visited
the Syrian Orthodox Church in Athens, Greece on Sunday, Oct 24th. HE
the Ambassador and his delegation was recieved at the end of the H.
Mass by the monks of the Syriac Orthodox Church. The Iraqi
delegation included the Iraqi consul Mr. Bakhtiar Anwar and
secretary of the embassy, Mr. Abdul Kader in addition to Mr. Dred
Oraha, official of the Assyrian Democratic Movement in Greece and
the delegation accompanying him.
The delegation was welcomed under the leadership of Rev. John Gsali
Rabban and other monks and representatives of the Church. The monks
thanked H.E the Ambassador, who is visiting our church for the first
time and members of the diplomatic delegation for all the services
provided by the Iraqi embassy in Greece and wishing them success in
their mission for the service of the Iraqi community in Greece. H.E
the Ambassador was presented with an icon of the Virgin Mary as a
gift on behalf of His Holiness Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, the
Patriarch.
H. E the Ambassador answered questions from members of the community
and also promised to extend all possible assistance by the Embassy,
especially for the children of the Iraqi refugees.
Parish
outing arranged by St. George Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church Galway, Ireland
GALWAY,
IRELAND: A Parish Outing was arranged by
St George Syrian Orthodox Church ,Galway ,Ireland to Iniscrone ,Co
Sligo under the leadership of Vicar Fr Babu Alias .Nearly 25 members
attended the outing which was conducted on Oct 23rd & 24th .Members
who participated in the above function witnessed that it was the
greatest enjoyment they had recently .All the members participated
in a variety of cultural programmes, traditional cooking ,music etc.
During the outing the birthday of the Vicar, Fr Babu Alias was
celebrated. The outing ended on a happy note which will be
remembered for a long time.
Combined
seminar of the Spiritual Organisations of Northern region of the
Malankara Archdiocese of North America held at St. Peter's Jacobite
Syrian Orthodox Church, Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA:
A combined seminar under the auspices of the Spiritual
Organisations - St. Mary's Women's League & St. Paul's Prayer
Fellowship, of the Northern region of the Malankara Archdiocese of
North America was held at St. Peter's Syrian Orthodox Church,
Philadelphia. V. Rev Cor-Episcopas, Rev. Fathers, Rev. Deacons and a
large number of faithful from the sixteen parishes falling under the
Northern region of the Archdiocese participated in the seminar and
were blessed.
The theme of the Seminar was- " Worship in Spirit and Truth ".
Classes and group discussions based on the theme were conducted.
The seminar was inaugurated by Rev. Fr Varghese Marunninal ( Ex -
Vice President, St. Paul's Prayer Fellowship ) after prayers. Shri.
Siju John welcomed the gathering and explained the different
arrangements made and events organised. Ms. Shimol Mathews read from
the H. Bible. Rev. Dr. A P George explained the different aspects of
'Worshipping in Spirit & Truth' in detail and also explained how
much the Christian worship is related to our daily lives.
Rev. Dr. Paul Parambathu moderated the group discussions in which
topics such as Matrimony, the different problems faced by the first
generation of the immigrant community, Cultural gap and Marriage
relationships and the problems faced by the youth during their
College/university education were discussed. A quiz was conducted by
Shri. Paulose Varkey ( St. Paul' s Regional Co-ordinator ) in which
the different Parishes participated as teams. Ms. Leelamma
Chandanasseril lead the intercessory prayers. The St. Peter's Choir
led and trained by Shinu Abraham presented a heavenly choir. The
slide show was led by Shri. Ninan Varghese. The women's perspective
of the theme of the seminar was presented by Ms. Soumya Alex. Ms.
Dania Skariah was the Master of Ceremony. M. Milan Roy ( St. Mary's
League New York regional secretary ) presented a overview of the
seminar. Ms. Sunitha Flowerhil, the representative of St. Mary's
Women's League of the host parish, St. Peter's Syrian Orthodox
Church presented the vote of thanks. The organisation of the
seminar was led by Rev. Fr. Jose Daniel ( Vicar, St. Peter's Syrian
Orthodox Church & Vice President - St. Paul's Fellowship ) and
assisted by Unit members of the St. Mary's Women's League and St.
Paul's Fellowship and the managing committee members. Shri. Sabu

We think that the Metran
Kakshis are short of ideas and their level of
desperation has reached new heights.
One of the allegations they raised against our
building a Church in Parumala was that we have made
a website in the name of Parumala Pally, which is
their 'trademark'. When people think only about
money, everything will seem as money making efforts
to them.
The latest is that the Metran Kakshis, who accuse us
of having registered a website in the name of
Parumala church have registered a website in the
name of our Manarcad Church. The web link of the same
is http://manarcadpalli.org/
But on clicking the above link, you are in for a
surprise.. The website that opens is that of Metran
kakshi Parumala church.
Their level of
desperation is shown on their online blogs. On these
blogs, they are creating fake identities in the
names of Jacobites - especially Jacobites who write
regularly in SOCM - Forum and using these fake
identities to badmouth Jacobite Church and the
Jacobite media. We understand that this is a cheap
gimmick since they cannot face us with truth. Such
desperation on their part is another sign that they
are built on a lie and the process of justifying
this lie is still not over.

Jubilee Celebrations at St. George Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church,
Carteret, New Jersey on October 31
CARTERET, NJ:
The year long silver Jubilee celebrations of St. George Jacobite
Syrian Orthodox Church, Carteret, New Jersey will be inaugurated by
the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of North America and Patriarchal
Vicar HG Mor Theethose Yeldho on Oct 31st. St. George church is the
first Syrian Orthodox church in the New Jersey area. The 108th
Dukhrono of St. Gregorios Thirumeni of Malankara will also be
celebrated.
The St. George congregation, which was started by the efforts of V.
Rev. David Cheruthottil Cor-Episcopa and a few faithful about 25
years back has grown as one of the biggest and prominent parishes of
the archdiocese by the grace of God. It was in 1999 that we could
have a church building of our own in Carteret. Renowned convention
speaker and Theologian Rev. Dr. A P George is serving the parish as
its present vicar. The founding priest, V. Rev David Cheruthottil
Cor-Episcopa is serving as the asst. vicar.
The Silver Jubilee celebrations committee formed with Shri. Jacob
Kuriakose as general convenor is organising various programs as a
part of the year long jubilee celebrations. Shri Lalu Kuriakose is
the publicity co-ordinator. The church managing committee under the
leadership of Shri. Roy Skariah, Secretary and Shri. Boban John,

JOHANNESBURG,
SOUTH AFRICA: HG Dr. Mor Coorilos Geevarghese Metropolitan of
Niranam diocese and Patriarchal Vicar of UK was accorded a warm
reception in Johannesburg, South Africa by the Syrian Christians
from Kerala residing in South Africa. The Metropolitan was received
at the airport by the faithful. An evening prayer and a fellowship
meeting was organised at St. Stephen's Anglican Church in
Johannesburg which was attended by a large number of Syrian
Christians from Kerala. Mor Coorilos is the first Jacobite Bishop to
visit and conduct a service in South Africa. Mor Coorilos arrived in
Johannesburg from Cape Town where he attended the third Lousanne
Congress on Evangelization. The Metropolitan was on the WCC
delegation to the Lousanne Congress in Cape Town.

The 108th Dukhrono of St. Gregorios Thirumeni of

will be held at St. George Syrian Orthodox Church, Charlotte, North
Carolina on Nov 6th and 7th. The Patriarchal Vicar and Archbishop of

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA:
The Third Congress of the Lausanne Movement has been
meeting in Cape Town, South Africa since the beginning of this week.
Delegates from 200 countries have been discussing evangelism in
diverse contexts, styles and cultures. The theme of the event is
“God in Christ reconciling the world to himself” (2 Corinthians
5:19). The Lausanne Movement seeks to be a global network of
"reflective practitioners" who share one vision for the work of
world evangelization. The movement began in 1974. Mor Coorilos
Geevarghese, Moderator, Commission of World Mission & Evangelism (CWME)
is a memer of the delegation representing the World Council of
Churches (WCC), led by WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse
Tveit has been present at the third congress, in Cape Town, an event
the Lausanne movement leadership refers to as its "most diverse
gathering ever".
In an interview, the moderator of the WCC Commission
of World Mission and Evangelism, Metropolitan Dr. Coorilos, said
that in a historical context that requires greater unity among
Christians, the participation of the WCC in this congress of the
Lausanne movement would go a long way toward bridging the gap
between evangelicals and the ecumenical movement, "a distinction
that we need to overcome".
"It is particularly reassuring to listen to the voices for justice
and reconciliation," Mor Coorilos said. He added that he prays that
the spirit of unity in the congress, which was also demonstrated by
a broad constituency and in a tangible manner at the centennial
celebrations of the 1910 World Mission Conference earlier this year
in Edinburgh, could be sustained for a long time.

onwards one of the internet media of "Methran
Kakshi"
started propagating the lie that, their so called
bishops(?) & priests(?) entered St. Mary's JSOC Mullaringad
and conducted the funeral service of a faithful with a
favourable High Court order. But truth is that, the so
called "Methran Kakshi" Bishops & priests were not able
to come near the above mentioned Jacobite Syrian
Orthodox Church. Also High Court didn't permit any one
from "Methran Kakshi" to enter the church. The so called
bishops & Priests conducted the service at the home of
departed and enjoyed the happiness of doing it inside
the church in their dreams.

The relatives of the departed was ready to conduct the
funeral service with the leadership of Jacobite Priest
and was not ready to create any problem out there.
Seeing this situation the crookedness of "Metran Kakshi"
leadership came out and filed a case to permit them to
conduct funeral service in a church which is fully Under
the control of Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church. The
interesting fact is that even though the family of
departed faithful was not willing to file the case, the
metran kakshi leadership with the help of some
dissidents managed to file the case and ended up with no
result.

SAYYIDNAYA, DAMASCUS: His Holiness Ignatius Zakka I Iwas
Patriarch met the participants of "Orthodox Vision for Peace"
conference in his private office in the Patriarchal Monastery of St.
Ephraim. HG Mor Philaxinos Mathias Nayis, the Patriarchal Assistant
and Director of the Faculty of Theology and Mor Dionysius Yuhanon
Kawaq, Director of the Patriarchal Curia were present along with His
Holiness in welcoming the delegates.
The "Orthodox Vision for Peace" conference is being held at St.
Christophorus Monastery in Sayyidnaya near Damascus.
During the meeting, His Holiness reviewed his guests on the topics
being discussed by the Participants during the meetings and
workshops. The participants thanked His Holiness for having hosted
them for the second time in the Monastery of St. Ephraim and
presented His Holiness with a commemorative gift. The delegates then
walked around the Monastery and the Patriarchal Headquarters and
visited the Library of the Patriarchate.
JAIPUR: A one-day
seminar about 'Family Life' was held at St. Mary's JSO Church,
Ahmedabad on Oct 17th. Rev. Fr. Thomas Karukappadi, who leads the
Pre-marital counselling in Kottayam Diocese led the seminar. Rev.
Fr. Thomas Karukappadi celebrated the H. Qurbono on the 17th. It was
followed by a class about the challenges faced by the family life in

PRESTON, UK: A new congregation by the
name St. Mary's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Congregation has been
formed in Preston, UK. This will be the 20th Congregation of the
Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church in the UK. On Oct 9th, H. Qurbono
was offered by the Vicar, Rev. Fr. Geevarghese Thandayathu followed
by Sermon, Offerings and Benediction. H. Qurbono will be celebrated
on every second Saturday at 3.00 pm.

celebrated the H. Qurbono Mylapore Diocese planning to build
a Retreat Centre, Convention Centre and Home stay facility
in Ooty
UDAGAMANDAL (OOTY): HG Mor Osthatheos
Ishaq, Metropolitan of the Mylapore and Delhi dioceses
visited the St. George JSO Church, Ooty on Oct 10th and
celebrated H. Qurbono.
The Vicar, Rev. Fr. Elias Pakalomattom, Rev. Dn. Siby and
the faithful of the church participated in the Divine
Celebrations. Presently, H. Qurbono is being held once in a
month on the second Sunday of every month. The service
starts at 8.30 am with the morning prayer followed by the H.
Qurbono. This Church comes under Mylapore Diocese of the
Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church.
The Church is located very close to the Ooty - Kunoor high
way, 10 kms from Ooty and 8 kms from Kunoor. We have 15
families belonging to our church here and a small floating
population of faithful. There are a few students studying in
Ooty also but many of those do not know the existence of our
church in Ooty. We have been conducting services in Ooty
regularly for the last 23 years and God willing, the church
will be celebrating the silver Jubilee next year.
As part of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations, the Mylapore
diocese has a lot of projects planned which includes a
Convention Centre, Retreat Centre and Home Stay facility.

Diocese 'Balakalolsavam' - Sulthan Batheri District wins the
overall championship
MEENANGADI: Sulthan Bathery
District wins the overall championship in the MJSSA Malabar Diocese
Balakalotsavam held at St. Gregorios College of Education,
Meenangadi. Meenangadi and Nilgiri Disticts won second and third
place respectively. Metropolitan His Grace Mor Barnabas Geevarghese
handed over the championship trophies to the winners. Earlier in the
morning, MJSSA Vice President, Fr. Jacob Michael Pulliyattel hoisted
the flag. Around 400 students from various Districts of MJSSA
participated.

Assembly of Ladies from the diocese of Aleppo
MA`ARAT SAYYIDNAYA, DAMASCUS: His Holiness
Ignatius Zakka I Iwas Patriarch received a delegation of the
Assembly of Ladies from the Syrian Orthodox Archdiocese of Aleppo at
St. Ephrem Patriarchal Monastery in Ma`arat Sayyidnaya on the
evening of Oct 14th. Rev. Fr. Joseph Khoury Shabo led the delegation
of the Assembly of Ladies. The primary purpose of the visit was to
seek the blessings of His Holiness and to listen to his parental
guidance and sound advice.
The delegation was welcomed by His Holiness and he wished that this
visit to the Patriarchal monastery and to all religious sites in the
region would be a blessing for them and their families. His Holiness
commended the Assembly of Ladies for their spiritual activities and
foremost their mentor Rev. Fr Joseph Shabo and encouraged them to
continue to work for the glorification of the name of God. His
Holiness also specially mentioned the great efforts made by the
Bishop HE Mor Gregorios Youhanna Ibrahim for the Diocese of Aleppo
in particular and the Syriac Church in general.
Rev. Fr Joseph Shabo thanked His Holiness on behalf of the Assembly
of Ladies and also the habitants of the Patriarchal monastery and

completed thirty years on the Holy Throne of Antioch.

MELBOURNE: The Youth Association of the St. George Jacobite Syrian
Orthodox Church, Melbourne organized a Talent Show on Oct 9th at the
Oakleigh Hall. This Talent Show was aimed at strengthening the sense
of friendship and team spirit among the youth of the Melbourne
Parish and also as a fund raising event for the Church Construction
work, which is a dream project of the Melbourne parishioners. Each
and every member of the parish worked together to organise a very

VATICAN CITY: The Syrian
Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo in Syria, Mor Gregorios Youhanna
Ibrahim, argued that the path to unity between Catholics and
Orthodox lies in “separating communion from authority” – a common
Orthodox talking point in dialogue with Catholicism. In effect, it
means unity in faith but not submission to the jurisdiction of the
pope. Mor Gregorios also floated a practical ideal that’s an
especially ardent ecumenical dream in the Middle East: a common date
for Easter. “Christians are waiting impatiently to see their unity
represented by this symbol,” he said. Mor Gregorios was speaking in
a session at the Synod going on at Vatican.
Catholicism and the other churches
of the West following the Gregorian calendar in fixing the date for
Easter and other liturgical feasts, while Orthodox churches observe
the older Julian calendar. (In 2011, the two happen to coincide on
April 24.) Archbishop also proposed a single feast day for all
Christian churches to celebrate the martyrs of the 19th and 20th
centuries.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The Thiruvananthapuram Jacobite Convention, termed as the
‘fore-runner of Puthencruz Jacobite Convention’ was held at St.
Peter’s Jacobite Syrian Simhasana Cathedral on October 15th to 17th.
The convention was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Sabu Samuel, Diocesan

Diocese Mor Sabor Aphroth Camp held at St. Mary's JSO
Cathedral, Kundara
KUNDARA: The annual
camp of MJSSA Kollam Diocese- Mor Sabor –Afroth Camp was held at.
St. Mary’s Jacobite Cathedral, Kundara on 16th and 17th October,
2010. The inauguration of the camp was done by Bar Eto Briro Dr. D.
Babu Paul IAS. The meeting was attended by V. Rev. Stephen
Cor-Episcopa, Vicar Rev. Fr. Davis Thankachen, Diocesan Secretary
and MJSSA Director Rev. Fr. Sabu Samuel, Rev. Fr. Punnose Tharakan,
Rev. Fr. Geevarghese Tharakan, Rev. Fr. Anish T. Varghese, Rev. Fr.
Thomas Thomas, Rev. Fr. Abraham Nallila, Rev. Fr. Gregor Kollanoor,
Dr. Dn. Paul Samuel and Mr. Baby Mathara. Classes for students and
teachers were conducted separately on both days.

declared as the "Georgian Pilgrim Centre of India" by
His Holiness Ignatius Zakka I Iwas Patriarch. The
concluding ceremony of the Centenary celebrations of Karingachira Cathedral deed submission and Platinum
Jubilee of the re-election of St. Athanasius Paulose
Valiya Thirumeni as Malankara metropolitan were held at
the Cathedral premises on 16th Oct. Patriarchal Vicar of
Beirut, HG Mor Clemis Daniel Kurieh, the Patriarchal
delegate read the Apostolic Bull of His Holiness. Prof.

Cathedral. His Beatitude Catholicos Baselios Thomas I
