Ignatius Zakka I Iwas Patriarch received the delegates of the Joint
Commission between WCC and the Vatican at the Patriarchal
Headquarters in Maarat Saydanaya near Damascus. His Holiness
commended them on the great efforts the Joint commission is making
to promote Christian unity and ecumenical relations between all
communities. His Holiness also gave them a brief overview of the
spread of the Syrian Orthodox church in the world today and also
situation of the Christians in the Middle East.

Mor Coorilos Geevarghese, Metropolitan of Niranam Diocese
and Moderator of WCC's Commission on World Missiona dn
Evangelism addressed the annual council of the Dutch Mission
Council which met in Utrecht from September 20-23, 2010. Mor
Coorilos was invited by the Mission Council of Protestant
Churches in Holland to speak on Mission and Ecology from the
Syrian Orthodox Perspective. The paper was well received by
the Council. The was for the first time, an Orthodox
theologian was invited by the Council to address them.
"Green Liberation", authored by Mor Coorilos was discussed
at length by the Council meeting. Mor Coorilos also attended
the meeting of WCC's working group on Evangelism

of Nativity of St. Mary celeberated at St. Mary's JSO
Church, Northampton
NORTHAMPTON: The feast of Nativity of St. Mary was
celebrated at St. Mary's JSO Church, Northampton on 18th
Sept. A reception was given to the diocesan Metropolitan HG
Dr. Coorilose Geevarghese as a part of this year's perunnal
celebrations. HG Mor Koorilose was the chief celebrant
during this years festivities assisted by the Vicar, Rev.
Fr. Raju Abraham. On the 18th, the H. Qurbana was followed
by the intercessory prayers to St. Mary, sermon by HG,
offerings and benediction. In the public meeting that
followed, HG Mor Coorilose inaugurated the Sunday school in
the Northampton parish and also inaugurated the new church
website. Devotional songs were sung by Mr. Binu Jacob. The

DAMASCUS: A group
of pilgrims from the Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox church
visited HH Ignatius Zakka I Iwas Patriarch, The Supreme Head of the
church in the Patriarchal Headquarters at Maarat Sayadanya near
Damascus. They were welcomed by His Holiness and he wished them a
pleasant stay in Syria and safe return to their homes and families.
The Supreme head of the church also urged them to uphold the faith
and teachings of the Syrian Orthodox church and impart good
Christian education to their children.

UAE: Rev. Fr.
Mathew Karimpanackal (Aji Achan) was given an official sent-off by
the St. George Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Simhasana Church, Al Ain,
UAE, on Friday, 17th September 2010, in the evening. The warm
function was inaugurated by His Grace Thomas Mor Timotheos while His
Grace Yuhanon Mor Militos presided over. Besides parishioners,
clerics from various Churches including the Ethiopian Orthodox
Church and the Coptic Orthodox Church were attended the function and

CANADA: From
September 4th to 6th, 80 youth from St. Behnam's Syrian Orthodox
Church in Mississauga and St. Mark's Syrian Orthodox Church in
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada came together for a religious weekend of
spiritual growth. The retreat this year was held at the Valley of
the Mother of God Coptic Monastery in Orangeville Ontario.
Abouna Angelos from the Coptic Orthodox Church present a lecture
about 'Temptation and Suffering' and Abouna Youhanna led an open
discussion on 'Judge not Others'. The workshop this year was on the
8 Beatitudes. Youth were split up into groups and each group was
given a Beatitude to act out using modern translation.
Biblical activities were also organized for the youth including a
Jeopardy game focused entirely on the Book of John. Morning and
evening prayers, and hymns were enjoyed each day and the retreat was
concluded with a bonfire for everyone's enjoyment. The youth left
with a better understanding of how to be a closer to God, and a
stronger sense of community with their neighboring youth.

HOMS, SYRIA: The Ambassador of Chile
to the Syrian Arab Republic, His Excellency Patricio Long along with
the Chilean delegation visited the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin
in Homs. The delegation was received by HG Mor Silwanos Petrus,
Metropolitan of Homs, Hama and environs. This was the cathedral from
which the H. Girdle of St. Mary was recovered by the Late Patriarch,
H.H Ignatius Aphrem Barsoum.

Thomas JSO Church, London on the 26th Sept. Mor Philaxinos

MUSCAT: Spiritual
Organisations of the St.Mary’s JSO Church Muscat bade a very fond
farewell to Rev.Fr.Alias Ipe at a special event organised at the
parish chapel on Friday, the 24th September 2010. The farewell
meeting was arranged under the patronage of Parish Managing
Committee, Spiritual Organisations such as Martha Mariyam Vanitha
Samajam, Sunday School and Youth Association.
The programme began with opening prayer by the Vicar Rev. Fr. Alias
Ipe. Mrs. Ancy Benoy sung a melodious devotional song before the
welcome speech by Mr. Eldho Varghese, Vice-President of Youth
Association. Felicitations were made by Mr. K. K.Thomas, Mrs. Jolly
Babu Thomas, Mr.Alias Paul and Mr. V. T. Mathew on behalf of Parish
Managing Committee, Martha Mariyam Vanitha Samajam, Youth
Association and Sunday School respectively. In his reply speech,
Rev.Fr.Alias Ipe extended his heartfelt gratitude to all. Ecumenical
farewell party will be held on Thursday, the 30th September, 2010
after the Holy Qurbono.
During his tenure, the Parish has achieved a lot of progress in
various spheres of Ministry. The able leadership and sterling
inspiration caused the spiritual enlightenment and awakening of the
Parish and related spiritual Organizations. A steep hike in the
number of membership from 350 families to 650 families is noteworthy
and is to be highly appreciated.
The parish celebrated its 30 th year of formation with a cluster of
charity and developmental activities this year. Preliminary steps
for the Parish building renovation have already been completed.
Recently, after many discussions and deliberations, the parish has
got nearly 1000 Sq.Mtrs of land from the Ministry of Awqaff and
Religious Affairs for constructing a beautiful church at Ghala, one
of the fast developing areas of the Muscat Municipality. The Parish
is very much indebted to Rev. Fr. Alias Ipe for his sincere Service
and Spartan missionary spirit. The parish is also happy with the
service of Kochamma Mrs. Deepa Alias and the loving company of their
children Ms. Aleena Irene Alias and Master Alan Ipe Alias.

His Beatitude Catholicos Baselios Thomas I consecrated new chapel
at Avadi, Chennai Metropolitan of Mylapore Diocese, Mor Osthatheos
Ishaq assisted
AVADI, CHENNAI: St.
George Chapel, the New Chapel of St. Thomas JSO Church,
for the benefit of faithful from Avadi area of Chennai, came
into existence. The temporary consecration ceremony was conducted
on 25 Sept 2010. H.B. Dr. Baselios Thomas I , Catholicos and Metropolitan Trustee was the chief celebrant assisted
by H.G. Mor Osthatheos Ishaq along with the priests of the
Mylapore Diocese.
The ceremony was started with the Evening prayer on 25th
followed by a Public Meeting where local residential representatives
were present. Bava praised on the efforts taken by the Annangar
Main church to complete the construction in such a short time. He
also stressed the need for more churches in other areas of Mylapore
Diocese where our members are residing. He particularly mentioned
Mr. C L Thomas, son of Late V T lazar who whole heartedly gave a
piece of land freely to construct the Chapel in Lazar Garden in
Kamaraj Nagar, Avadi , Chennai 600 071. In his welcome speech , Rev
Fr. Aby Alias , Vicar , St Thomas JSO Church and Diocesan Secretary
referred that many have sponsored in kind and cash for various items
needed for the Chapel. Rev Fr. Aby Paul, Asst Vicar proposed a
Vote of thanks.

Qurbono in the

Archdiocese Sunday School Region-2 Competition held at St.
Paul's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA: The region -2
of Malankara Archdiocese Sunday School Association conducted their
annual talent competition on Saturday September 11th, 2010 at St.
Paul's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church located in the city of
Havertown, PA. Around 100 children from eight churches within the
region gathered to test their ability in Liturgical Songs,
Devotional songs, Elocution, Instrument music, Bible Test and Bible
Quiz . Fr. Joy John, Vicar and President of St. Paul's JSO Church
conducted the opening prayer at 09:30am followed by registration and
breakfast . Prior to the competition, Chevalier James John, the
Regional Director of sunday school association explained the rules
and regulations to contestants and judges.
Dr. T. V. John, the Archdiocesan Sunday School Director delivered
message at the closing ceremony. Mr. Sony Alex announced the winners
list and the special awards were distributed to the individual
champions . Fr. Geevarghese Jacob Chalissery, the joint secretary of
Malankara Archdiocese distributed the prizes to the winners. St.
Paul's Church Philadelphia, gained 76 points in total, won the
Overall Championship . St. Peter's JSO Church, Philadelphia with 75
points became the first runner up. St. George JSO Church Carteret
New Jersey and St. Johns JSO Church, Staten Island, New York reached
the third and forth place respectively. St. Mary's Jacobite Syrian
Orthodox Church, Washington DC, St. Thomas Jacobite Syrian Orthodox
Baltimore, MD and St. James Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church
Livingston New Jersey were the other participating parishes.

Muvattupuzha. The centre will be named after Late Lamented

Ivanios Mathews of Kandanad, Mor Aphrem Mathews of Ankamali, Dr. Mor
Clemis Kuriakose of Idukki, Mor Anthonios Ya`qub of Honnavar and Mor

The feast
of Nativity of St. Mary, Gospel convention family retreat at St.
George JSO church Aberdeen, United Kingdom concludes
ABERDEEN, UK: The feast of
Nativity of St. Mary, gospel convention and family retreat was held
at Aberdeen St. George JSO church from 17th to 19th September. HG
Mor Philaxinos Zacharias, Metropolitan of Malabar diocese and the
director of Thuthootty St. Gregorios and Ambalavayal St. Gregorios
retreat centres led this years celebrations and the retreat.
This years services started on the 17th evening with welcoming HG
Mor Philaxinos to the church and the retreat that followed. The
retreat continued on the 18th with the noon prayers. On sunday, the
19th H. Qurbono was offered by HG Mor Philaxinos assisted by Rev.
Fr Thomas Puthiyamadom, the vicar. The H. Qurbono was followed by
intercessory prayers to St. Mary, 14th Dukhrono of LL Baselios

SAYYIDNAYA, DAMASCUS: Holy Church in Malankara is the Jewel in
Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, said Archbishop Mor Theophilose
George Saliba, Hon. Secretary to the Holy Universal Episcopal Synod
and Archbishop of Mount Lebanon. Mor Theophilose was speaking in the
special luncheon organised by His Beatitude Catholicos Baselios
Thomas I in honour of His Holiness Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas,
on the occasion of 30th anniversary of the enthronement of His
Holiness as Patriarch and of Holy Episcopal Synod, at a hotel near
to Ma`arat Sayyidnaya on September 17, Friday. "The restless and
hard work of His Beatitude made Syriac Orthodox Church proud in
India and Aboon Baselios Thomas I is a gem. The prayerful and
dedicated life of Aboon is highly remarkable", continued Mor
Theophilose. His Holiness Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, other
metropolitans, including Mor Athanasius Geevarghese and Mor
Theethoos Yeldho from India attended the luncheon. His Holiness
thanked His Beatitude for the honour.

British Ambassador's Under Secretary visits Mor Gabriel Monastery
TUR`ABDIN, TURKEY:
The British Ambassador's Under Secretary, Mr. Giles Portman visited
Mor Gabriel Monastery recently. The undersecretary had a meeting
with Archbishop of Tur`abdin and Abbott of Monastery, Mor Themotheos
Samuel Akthas and the administrative staff of the council of
the monastery. During this meeting, Mr. Portman was informed about
the current situation of the Syriac Orthodox people in the region,
the Monastery in general and about the region of Tur`abdin. Mr.
Portman also had time to tour the monastery's historic buildings.
Following his tour, he said that he was greatly impressed by the
long history and was very happy to be at the monastery.

Metropolitan Mor Philoxenos Saliba Ozmen, the Patriarchal Vicar of
Mardin & Diarbeker, was honoured with the prestigious award of South
Eastern Association along with other 15 eminent personalities from
different walks of life. The award winners include His Excellency
Selma Kavaf, Minister of state, His Excellency Nuri Okutan, Governor
of the province and Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Halil, Vice Chancellor of
Harran University.

Eminence Mor Yostinos Paulose Yousuf Safar arranged a special
luncheon to honour Honourablr Minister of Culture, His Excellency
Mr. Salim Rous at the headquarters of Archdiocse of Zahle on
September 10, Friday. The meeting was attended by Mayors of Zahle,
