PUTHENCURIZ: 30th Anniversary of Enthronement of HH Ignatius Zakka I celebrated at Puthencuriz Patriarchal Centre ( Head Quarters of Syrian Orthodox Church in India) today. H.B Catholicose Dr. Baselios Thomas 1st lead the Thanksgiving Holy Mass at St. Athanasius Cathedral here assisted by H.G Mathews Mor Aprem here. Baretho Mahero Thambu George Thukalan (Church Secretary), Rembans, Priests, Deacons, Nuns, Church officials & lots of faithful attended the Holy Mass & the celebrations held here there after. H.B Catholicose Dr. Baselios Thomas 1st cut the cake which marked the celebrations at the Church Headquarters in India.

ROME: The 29th Ecumenical Meeting of the Bishops was held at Castelgandolfo, Rome from 9-13 September 2010. 35 bishops from 17 countries attended the Conference. Apart from the discussions and dialogues, the participants visited St. Clements Church where the Holy Relics of St. Ignatius of Antioch (Ignatius Noorono) are entombed and  an ecumenical service was conducted. On sunday the 12th Sep., the bishops Joined  H.H. Pope Benedict XVI  with the audience for the midday Angelus at his summer residence. Dr. Mor Theophilose Kuriakose Metropolitan, one of the moderators of the conference, was taken to His Holiness' reception chamber to meet him personally.

Honourable minister on his speech emphasized the need for promoting eye and blood donation.  Cine director Blessy Chairman of "Kazhcha" precided over the function.

Niranam Diocese of Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church organized an Iftar in accordance with Ramzan enforcing the religious harmony existing in the state on September 9th.

World Congress of the International Association for Religious Freedom (IARF) held at the Renewal Centre at Kochi.

KOCHI: Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lam inaugurated the World Congress of the International Association for Religious Freedom (IARF) at the Renewal Centre at Kochi. The theme of the congress was Beyond conflict to reconciliation: The challenge of the 21st century. The Seminar presided by IARF president Dr,Thomas Mathew and started with the prayers from 11 different religions.

Dr. Sukumar Azhikode delivered the main speech. Arya Samajam president Agniveg, Sivarathri National centre Mahaswami Homidhalla, Swami Jidhath Majnanandha, Dr. Sheikh Ali, Hiroshima Foundation President Dr. Stephen Leeper and the only representative from the Christian religion H. E Dr. Kuriakose Mor Theophilose (Resident Metropolitan, MSOT & Metropolitan in charge for Germany, Switzerland, Austria) delivered the speech.

The Seminar on religious freedom attended by social and religious leaders from different parts of the world. About 600 peace-makers from different parts of the globe took part in the Congress to discuss issues such as religion and human rights.

NEW JERSEY: The 14th Dhukrono of Late Lamented H.B. Catholicos Baselius Paulose 2nd Bava and first death anniversary of Late. Rev. Fr. N.T. Kurian Chalissery ( St. Peters & St. Pauls Jacobite Church, Chalissery,Trichur Diocese) was observed in St.James Syrian Orthodox Church, Livingston, New Jersey of Malankara Archdiocese in USA. His Eminence Mor Titus Yeldho, Archbishop and Patriarchal Vicar of Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in North America celebrated the Holy Qurbono . Rev.Fr.Geevarghese Jacob Chalissry (Vicar and Diocesan Joint Secretary), Rev. Dn.Ani Skaria Thelappillil have assisted and many faithful from New York , New Jersey area have attended the Holy service.

Consecration of  Chapel at Avadi, Chennai under  St. Thomas JSOC Annanagar on 25th & 26th September

A chapel  for St Thomas JSO Church , Annanagar, Chennai  for the benefit of faithful from that area,  has been built in Avadi.  The consecration ceremony of this chapel is scheduled to be held 25 and 26 Sept 2010.   H.B. A colloquium on the preservation of St. Thomas Christian Heritage

KOCHI, KERALA, INDIA: The Association for Preservation of the St. Thomas Christian Heritage (APSTCH) hosted a colloquium on the efforts to digitize the ancient manuscripts and inscriptions that document the heritage of the St. Thomas Christians in India. The meeting was held at Ernakulam on September 8, 2010, Wednesday. Several linguists and historians from international and local universities participated. Notable participants included Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. Mar Aprem (Chaldean Church), Dr. Hubert Kaufhold (University of Munich), Dr. Hidemi Takahashi (University of Tokyo), Dr. George Kiraz (Beth Mardutho: The Syriac Institute and Publisher, Gorgias Press, New Jersey), and Fr. George Kurukkoor (Old Malayalam linguist).

Dr. Istvan Perczel (Tubingen University, Germany and Central-European University, Hungary) and Dr. Susan Thomas (Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University, Kaladi, Kerala) presented the accomplishments of the digitization project initiated in 2005 that has digitized a large collection of endangered documents which are now being prepared for online and print publication as well as scholarly study.

KOLLAM: Metropolitan of Kollam Diocese, Mor Theodosius Mathews laid foundation stone for the latest project of the diocese, St. Thomas JSO Church at Kollam Town. The solemn function was attended by Diocesan Secretary, Fr. Sabu Samuel Adichanalloor, Fr. Punnose Tharakan, Very Rev. K J Thomas Cor-Episcopus  Adichanalloor, Very Rev. Mathews Cor-Episcopus Nallila, Very Rev. Abraham Mannikarottu Cor-Episcopus, Dn. Jhones Parakode and many faithful.

ANNAMALAI UNIVERSITY CAMPUS, CHIDAMBARAM: Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church , Mylapore Diocese started spreading  its wings not only in Chennai city but also outside in Tamilnadu. Recently, for the benefit of the students, Staff and other members  of Annamalai University Campus, Chidambaram in TamilNadu, a service centre was started and as a first step, Holy Qurbana was celebrated in the  campus under the able guidance of Rev. Fr. Aby Alias ,Vicar , St. Thomas JSO Church, Annanagar, Chennai and Diocesan Secretary on 05 Sept 2010.  Around 250 students and others attended the Service.

GALWAY, IRELAND: Warm reception was given to Metropolitan Mor Dioscorus Kuriakose, the Patriarchal vicar of Ireland, who arrived in Galway airport, Ireland, on Sep 3 rd at 5PM. Mor Dioscorus will inaugurate the family conference which will be held in Esker Monastery, Athenry, Co Galway, Ireland on Sep 10,11&12. The reception was arranged by St. George Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Congregation Galway under the leadership of vicar,  Fr. Babu Alias. Many of the parishioners, including office bearers of participated in the exciting function.

CHITHOOR, AP: Metropolitan Dr. Coorilos Geevarghese, President of St. Paul's Mission of India consecrated the newly built St. Paul's Mission Church of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church in Chithoor mission field in Andhra Pradesh. Dr. Mor Coorilos and the team from Pattimattam Mission Centre that accompanied the metropolitan were accorded a warm reception by the members of the church. Brother John (a convert) is in charge of this mission field. By the grace of God, our mission fields are flourishing in various parts of India. We urge every one to continue to pray for and support the activities of St. paul's Mission of India, the only missionary organization of our church.

OKLAHOMA: Mor Gregorios Syrian Orthodox Student Association’s (MGSOSA) southern region held their second retreat for the 2010 year. It was a summer retreat which was held at St. George Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church in Bethany, Oklahoma on August 7, 2010. The theme for the retreat was Psalm 119:45 “I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts”. The main message was given by Rev. Dn. Zach Varghese, from St. Thomas JSO Church, Austin, Texas. Following his message was a session led by Rev. Dn. Martin Babu, from St. Mary’s JSO Church, Houston, Texas, who helped the youth better understand the message that was given that day. Also at the retreat the southern regional youth members were blessed to learn the wedding song 'Pathivrithayam' in Syriac which was taught by Rev. Fr. Saji Kuriakose, the vicar of St. Mary’s JSO Church, Houston, Texas. The Southern Regional fall retreat will  be held at St. Mary’s Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church in Dallas, Texas.

ALLAPRA: 'Children ought to follow Jesus and be morally enlighten', said Bava while rendering the benedictory speech in the study camp held at St. Jacob's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Allapra on Aug 25, Wednesday. Metropolitan Mor Aphrem Mathews Metropolitan Perumbavoor Region inaugurated the camp and also led the children into meditation. The classes were taken by Mr. Joseph Thomas, Samanwaya counselling centre, Thrikkakara and Rev. Fr. Prince, lecturer Bharat Matha college, Thrikkakara. Rev. Fr. The ifthar meet was attended by eminent personalities from various folks of life like His Excellency Sheik Dr. Ahmed Badr Eddin Hussain of Syria, His Excellency Dr. Mahmoud Akkham of Aleppo, Sheik Dr. Muhammed Abdul Huda Hussain, heads of various churches from Syria and Aleppo, scholars, representatives of universities in Aleppo.

SHARJAH: Dukhrono of Late Lamented Catholicos Baselios Paulose II was observed at St. Mary's JSO Soonoro Church, here on August 31, Tuesday. Metropolitan of Mylapore, Delhi Dioceses, Mor Osthatheos Ishaq was the chief celebrant fro the Holy Tri Mass, assisted by Fr. Joshy Chitteth and Fr. Paulose Kaliyamilil. Hundreds of faithful attended in the feast. Metropolitan will lead this year's Ettu Nombu Perunnal at Sharjah.
