Jossy, vicar of the church and managing committee members were present at the occasion. Rev Fr. Jossy & K.K. HOUSTON: Malankara Arch Diocese of North America Silver Jubilee Convention Registration Kick off held at St. Mary's JSO Church, here. Arch Bishop Mor Theethoos Yeldho presided over. Convention General Convenor Joby George explained about the arrangements of the convention to be held from July 22 to July 25. Lot of faithful from Houston area registered themselves for the convention.

Kollam diocese metropolitan H.G Mor Theodosius Mathews hosted the flag after the holy Qurbono held at Dayaro. Kollam Diocese Secretary Rev Abraham Mannikarote Cor-Episcopa, Thumpamon Diocese Secretary Fr. Sam G Varghese, Rev Thomas Cor- Episcopa, Dn Johns & many faithful were present on the occasion. Council of Ministers of Government of Syria holds a meeting at the anniversary of March Revolution

DAMASCUS: Presidency of the Council of Ministers set up a reception on March 09, Tuesday, evening to mark the seventieth anniversary of the March Revolution, which happened on 1949 March 30. Mohammed Naji Otari, Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and a number of ministers, Assistant Secretary General of the party of Abdul Al-Ahmar, Dr. Najah al-Attar, Vice President and Assistant Regional Secretary of the party, Mohammed Saeed Bakhtian, Dr. Mahmoud al-Abrash the parliament speaker and several members of the national leadership, national and Secretaries-General of the National Progressive Front parties and ministers and secretaries of departments and members of the Board of Governor, ambassadors and high commissioners of various nations to Syria, Christian and Muslim Leaders. One Day Retreat Of St. Mary's women's league and St. Paul's prayer fellowship held in New York

NewYork: A joint one day conference and retreat organized by St. Mary's Women's league and St.Pauls Prayer Fellowship of Malankara Archdiocese Eastern Region held at St.Marys Syrian Orthodox Church, Lynbrook, Newyork on march 6th Saturday,2010. His Grace Dr.Kuriakose Mor Theophilos metropolitan (Resident Bishop of Udayagiri Seminary & Central Europe ) inaugurated the meeting and delivered keynote address." I have set an example for you " (St.John 13:15) was the theme for the conference.  V.Rev.Dr.Adai Jacob Corepiscopo (Principal,Udayagiri Seminar, Rev. Dr. A.P. George, Mr.Vivek Alex lead various sessions such as study class, retreat and discussion. A quiz competition also were conducted lead by Mr.Reji Paul and Mrs.Susan Varkey. KOCHI: Santhosh Pothara awarded Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Degree in Physics by Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. Dr. Santhosh is a lecturer in the Physics Department at B.P.C College, Piravom. Dr. Santhosh is the son of Very Rev. Baby Joseph Cor Episcopa Pothara. His brother Fr. Jyothis Pothara is a priest in our church.

A delegation from University of Agder, Norway visits His Holiness, the Patriarch

MA`ARAT SAYYIDNAYA, DAMASCUS: A delegation comprising professors and students from the Department of history and religious studies of University of Agder visited His Holiness Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas at St. Ephraim's Patriarchal Monastery here on March 07, Sunday. His Holiness briefed about the theology, history and tradition of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church world wide. The delegation was curious to know more about the Syriac Orthodox Church in India and His Holiness briefed about the church in India too. His Holiness described them abut the hymns of St. Ephraim, the Syrian. The delegation visited Monastery as a part of their curriculum. University of Agder is one of the largest institutions for higher learning in Norway.

Metropolitan Mor Theodosius Mathews, priests and lots of representatives of Women's League were present.

Archbishop Hilarion Capucci visits His Holiness, the Patriarch at Patriarchal Monastery

MA`ARAT SAYYIDNAYA, DAMASCUS: Archbishop Emeritus Hilarion Capucci of Caesarea in Palaestina dei Greco-Melkiti visited His Holiness the Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas at St. Ephraim Patriarchal Monastery here on March 06, Saturday. Archbishop was welcomed by His Eminence Mor Philoxenos Mathias Nayis, Patriarchal Assistant and Director of St. Ephraim's Seminary, Dayaroryos and others at the monastery. His Holiness and Archbishop discussed about many matters including the recent attack on the churches and mosques in Jerusalem by anti social elements. Holy Father and Archbishop called for security and stability in Iraq. They condemned on the attacks happened in Iraq, especially against Christians there. Holy Father presented Archbishop some books from H.H's collection which describe the history, tradition and culture of Syriac Orthodox Church. Archbishop thanked His Holiness and Syriac Orthodox Church for the warm welcome given to him at the monastery.

His Eminence celebrated Holy Qurbono at the Archdiocesan Cathedral at Aleppo

ALEPPO, SYRIA: 31st Anniversary of the metropolitan consecration of Dr. Mor Gregorios Youhanna Ibrahim observed at St. Ephraim's Syriac Orthodox Cathedral, here on March 04, Thursday. Dr. Gregorios celebrated thanks giving Holy Qurbono at the cathedral at 6.00 AM. His Eminence was assisted by the Cor Episcopus, priests. Lot of faithful from Aleppo and environs attended.

It was in 1979 March 04, Dr. Mor Gregorios was consecrated as a metropolitan in the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, by the blessed hands of His Holiness Ignatius Yaqu'b III (1980+) at Damascus. Mor Gregorios is currently the Archbishop of Aleppo and Environs.

ALEPPO, SYRIA: Founder's Day of Scouts celebrated by the Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese of Aleppo on Feb 28, Sunday. Archbishop Dr. Mor Gregorios Youhanna Ibrahim inaugurated. The fifth regiment of Scouts under the Archdiocese in considered as the best regiment in Syria. Very Rev. Cor Episcopus Joseph Shabu, Rev. Fr. Yousuf, Rev. Fr. Nabil spoke on the occasion. The scouts took an oath on the occasion. Dr. Gregorios urged the cadets to serve the society and people at maximum without expecting any reward.

The Scout Movement is a world wide youth movement with the stated aim of supporting young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development, so that they may play constructive roles in society. Scouting began in 1907 when Robert Baden-Powell, Lieutenant General in the British Army, held the first Scouting encampment at Brownsea Island in England.

A delegation from Norway visits Dr. Mor Gregorios Youhanna Ibrahim

ALEPPO, SYRIA: A delegation comprises of University professors and students of history and theology in various universities in Norway visited the  Archbishop Dr. Mor Gregorios Youhanna Ibrahim at Archbishop's House here on Feb 28, Sunday. The visit was as a part of the curriculum. The delegation was led by Prof. Inga Lill and Harad Opins. The delegation was welcomed by Dr. Mor Gregorios, Dr. Elias Samao (Vice President, Milli Majlis), and others at the Archbishop's house. Dr. Samao described the delegation about the theology, faith, tradition and history of Syriac Orthodox Church.

The delegation was described about the current leadership of the Syriac Orthodox Church, role of SOC in Christianity etc. Dr. Gregorios presented a copy of Hidden Pearl written by Dr. Sebastian Brock to the university library on behalf of the Syriac Orthodox Church.

Federation of Syriac Orthodox in Hindustan (FSOH) inaugurated on Feb 27, Saturday

MUMBAI, INDIA: The new organization by name "Federation of Syriac Orthodox in Hindustan" (FSOH) was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Bar Eto Briro Dr. D Babu Paul (I.A.S. retd.) in a grand function held at the 'Mor Gabriel Hall' (Goregaon Sports Club banquet hall), Mumbai on the evening of Saturday, 27th February 2010. The function started with a welcome speech by the President of the new organization, Mr. John Mathew (Mumbai) followed by the inaugural speech of Bar Eto Briro Dr. D Babu Paul I.A.S (retd.).

His Eminence Mor Osthatheos Ishaq, Metropolitan of Mylapore diocese, delivered the benedictory address. The Metropolitan in his speech emphasized the need for a stronger cultural bond between the Syriacs of the Syrian homeland & India and promised all help to the new organization.

The visiting dignitaries from Netherlands and Sweden, Mr Jonny Messo, President of S.U.A. (Syriac Universal Alliance - www.sua-ngo.0rg) and Mr. Yusuf Aydin, President of SOKU (www.soku.org), who spoke on the occasion extended full support to the new organization which is intended to promote the common Syriac cultural heritage of the suryoyo, worldwide. Sr. Hatuna Dogan (Germany) of Hatuna Foundation also spoke on the occasion.

Adv. A C Jayarj, President of the Mangalore Christian Council & the secretary of the Joppu Jacobite Syrian church in Mangalore, congratulated the organizers for their strenuous effort in starting such a Federation for the Syriac Orthodox in India. At the end of the program an interesting Aramaic (Syriac) Musical program was held by Ms. Babylonia, the renowned singer from Germany along with Mr. Gabriel.

The main aims of the new organization that is expected to function in association with the Syriac Universal Alliance - www.sua-ngo.0rg, is to provide a Socio-Cultural platform for the development of the Syriac Orthodox community across the world and to develop a collective platform of Indian Suryoyo and Aramian Suryoyo community.

Soonoro Perunnal observed at Manarcad Cathedral

MANARCAD: Soonoro Perunnal observed at Morth Mariyam JSO Cathedral, here on 27th. It was on Feb 26, 1982, His Holiness, Ignatius Zakka I Iwas Patriarch installed the Holy Soonoro of Mother Mary here. It was then, for the first time in Malankara, the Soonoro was installed. Every year the day, Feb 26 is observed as Soonoro Perunnal here. His Grace Mor Philoxenos Zacharias of Malabar Diocese celebrated Holy Qurbono this year. Thousands of faithful attended.

Ambassador for Greek in Syria Her Excellency Tasia Otnacio visits His Holiness, The Patriarch

MA`ARAT SAYYIDNAYA, DAMASCUS: Greek Ambassador in Syria, Her Excellency Ms. Tasia Otnacio visited His Holiness Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas at St. Ephraim Patriarchal Monastery here on Feb 26, Friday. The embassy of Greece in Syria is located at Damascus. Her Excellency took the charge of the Greek embassy recently. The meeting was a landmark in the development of the community as Her Excellency expressed her desire to avail the educational scholarships offered by the Government of Greece for the monks and nuns, to all the students from the Syriac Orthodox Church. This meeting also will flourish the relation between Syriac Orthodox Church and Greek Orthodox Church and will help in the  dialogue going on between the two Orthodox Churches. Her Excellency offered all the support in this matter too. His Holiness gifted Ms. Otnacio, some of the books from H.H's collection describing the Syriac Orthodox Church, its culture, theology, tradition and history.
