SAN JOSE, CA: By the Grace of God, His Eminence Mor Clemis Eugene
Kaplan Archbishop of the Western US, accompanied by His Eminence Mor
Gregorios Saliba Shamoun Archbishop of Mosul, Iraq, and His Eminence
Mor Filuksinos Saliba Archbishop of Mardin and Turkey, celebrated
the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, June 20th 2010, at 12:00 pm, and
consecrated the new worship place, located at: 1921 Las Plumas Ave,
San Jose, CA 95133, to be St. Thomas the Apostle Syriac Orthodox
Church.
The building of the new church was donated by the faithful Mr. Emad
and Mrs. Alia Hoady in memory of their son the late David Hoady. In
his sermon His Eminence Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan thanked our Lord
Jesus Christ for allowing to have His house to be worshiped by
faithful people. His Eminence also extended his gratitude to the
Hoady family who donated the church and presented them a plaque as a
token of appreciation. In turn, the Hoady family gave each of the
archbishops a gift (gold plated cross).
In his homily, the Archbishop of Mosul showed his joy and presented
to His Eminence Mor Clemis a treasury that he has brought from St.
Thomas Cathedral in Mosul, Iraq. It is the relic of St. Thomas the
apostle, which was brought from Edessa to Mosul in the 4th century,
and it is the only relic of the apostle in USA.
It was a wonderful and blessed historical day. There were many
faithful who attended from the various churches in the Archdiocese
as well as from the Malankara Archdiocese. Every attendee was
blessed from the bone of St. Thomas, and enjoyed the prayers of the
consecration.

300/2010 letter from Mar Didimos on the
"Uncanonical???" conversion by Goorgan.
 Read
We were wondering whether Mar Didimos is not aware of the "uncanonical"
conversion done by Muvattupuzha Mar Athan & Mannoothy Mar Milithi. A publication of "Metran
Kakshi" was crying that all the bishops ordained by Moosa were
from Jacobite Church. So what was the need of this letter if no
one was from "Kottayam International Orthodox Church". |

WCC
mission body to revamp ecumenical understanding of mission for the
21st century H.G
Dr. Mor Coorilos Geevarghese as the moderator represented Universal Syriac Orthodox
Church

The World
Council of Churches (WCC) Commission on World
Mission and Evangelism has launched a process
aimed at an overhaul of the ecumenical
understanding of Christian mission.
Two key steps in the process will
be a mission event scheduled for March 2012 and
a new affirmation on mission and evangelism to
be submitted to the upcoming WCC 10th Assembly,
which is due to take place in Busan, Republic of
Korea (South Korea) in 2013.
The WCC Commission on World
Mission and Evangelism (CWME) took these
decisions at its 7- 10 June meeting in
Edinburgh, Scotland, which followed the
Edinburgh 2010 conference commemorating the
hundredth anniversary of a landmark 1910 World
Mission Conference in the same city.
For the WCC, the authoritative
missiological text is currently the document
Mission and Evangelism - An Ecumenical
Affirmation adopted by the WCC central
committee in 1982. This landmark document draws
on insights from Protestant, Evangelical,
Orthodox and Roman Catholic mission theologies.
It keeps a fruitful tension between the
commitment to the proclamation of the gospel and
the prophetic role of the churches.

Evangelization and social justice belong together,
says WCC representative

Bishop Geevarghese Mor
Coorilos, from India, moderator of WCC's Commission on World Mission
and Evangelism
EDINBURGH: Bishop
Geevarghese Mor Coorilos, from India, voiced a “growing concern that
the prophetic voice [of the church] has been gradually diminishing
in ecumenical circles including the World Council of Churches (WCC)”.
Coorilos is the moderator of the WCC's Commission on World Mission
and Evangelism. Speaking at the 2-6 June Edinburgh 2010 Conference,
Coorilos said that “a false dichotomy between evangelical and
ecumenical strands [of Christianity] is irrelevant”. However, he
warned that “attempts at widening the ecumenical umbrella” should
not dilute the “prophetic dimensions of mission”. “Passion for
evangelism and quest for social justice should be held together”, he
said. The Edinburgh 2010 international gathering commemorates the
hundredth anniversary of the landmark 1910 World Mission Conference
which took place in the same city and is widely considered the
symbolic starting point of the modern ecumenical movement. Some 300
delegates from over 60 countries and virtually all Christian
traditions are attending the event.
