JEPPU, MANGALORE: St. Antony's JSO Church here consecrated and elevated as the Cathedral today, Jan 31, Sunday. His Beatitude Catholicos Baselios Thomas I was the chief celebrant. Metropolitans Their Graces, Mor Polycarpus Geevarghese, Dr. Mor Gregorios Joseph, Dr. Mor Ivanios Mathews, Mor Aphrem Mathews, Mor Irenios Paulose and Mor Anthonios Yaq'ub assisted Catholicos. Secretary to the Holy Episcopal Synod in Malankara Dr. Mor Gregorios Joseph read the Apostolic Bull of His Holiness Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas. This is one of the biggest churches outside Kerala, with the main thronos dedicated to St. Antony and others dedicated to St. Mary, St. George, St. Gregorios Chathuruthil and St. Ignatius Elias III. A public function held on Jan 30, in which Rt. Rev. Dr. J. S. Sadananda (C. S. I Bishop), Veerappa Moily (Hon. Union Minister), Oscar Fernandez (AICC General Secretary), Padhma Shri Dr. Veerendra Hegde (Abbot of Dharmasthala Mutt), Monsignor Fr Dennis Moras Prabhu, vicar general of Mangalore Diocese were present. The church is designed by Ardhiklo De Etho Commander Santhosh John.

Dr. Heggade Stresses Need for Communal Harmony at Consecration Celebrations of Jacobite Church

MANGALORE: “A temple or a church should give peace of mind to a devotee and should make him surrender to God. Hence, a place of God should attract with its structure”, said Padma Shri Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmastala, at a public meeting organized at St Antony’s Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Jeppu, as part of the celebration of its Holy Mooron Consecration Ceremony on renovation.

Speaking on Saturday January 30, he said that the church is a place which makes devotees surrender to God in search of his blessings. “The architecture of the church helps everybody pray in a silent environment. When entering this church it attracted me with its beauty”, he said appreciating the renovated church.

Dr Heggade recalled that he had seen a similar church on his visit to Russia and said that the ancient temples and churches were a good place to worship God which even on a first visit makes us pray to God in a different way.

He also said that the Jacobite Syrian community has contributed much to the culture of this district. “Their contributions to the field of agriculture, business, and others in a notable manner are really appreciable. Without discriminating in the name of religion, we have to live in a better way in future”, added Dr Heggade.

Oscar Fernandes, former union minister, inaugurated the programme. Dr J S Sadananda, Bishop of C S I Karnataka Southern Diocese, released the parish telephone directory.

MLA U T Khader, and Vinay Kumar Sorake, former Member of Parliament, were present as chief guests.

H B Catholicos Baselios Thomas I, presided over the programme. The Holy Mooron Consecration celebrations started on Friday January 29 and will conclude with consecration on Sunday January 31.

OLIVE 2010 : Logo released

SINGAPORE: The logo of OLIVE 2010, the Family Conference of St. Mary's JSO Church, Singapore, released. Mr. E P  Varghese received the logo from Vicar, Rev. Fr. Kuriakose Kadavumbhagom. The retreat of the conference will be lead by Rev. Fr. Paulose Parekkara. The theme of the conference is 'Return to GOD'.

Ecumenical worship of Denmark held at Copenhagen

COPENHAGEN: "Church Travel in City", the biggest ecumenical worship in the history of Denmark held at the capital city of Copenhagen on 19th of Jan 2010. Bishops, Priests and the Laymen of all Christian churches in Denmark took part in the procession which happened as part of this event and celebrated Holy Mass. Special prayers also held for world peace and spiritual uplift of the world Christian community. Along with Catholic, Russian Orthodox, Lutheran, Jerusalem Methodist, Coptic, Ukraine Orthodox, Anglican and  Swedish Churches, Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church also participated in this 56th year of celebration.

Dearly Brothers and Sisters,
May the Grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. The island of Haiti has been wrecked by a strong Earthquake. Almost everything is destroyed, and there is no way they can stand up again without the help of others. The catastrophe is devastating to all of the residents of the Island. Help and aid flew from all across the country. We, as Christians, were ordered by the Lord to take care of the needy, feed the hungry and clothe the naked. Many of the churches in America responded to this call.
Likewise our Archdiocese feels the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Haiti. Today, we are collecting a special collection for the people of Haiti. We appeal to your generosity and ask you to donate as much as possible to this important cause. After receiving your donations into our Archdiocesan Relief Fund, we in turn will channel the collected donations to the people of Haiti, through trusted Christian Charity organizations, who are already working in the relief operations there.
May the Lord richly bless you, and my He relief the suffering and pain of all humanity.

Mar Yohannan Joseph and Mar Augin Kuriakose consecrated as new bishops for Assyrian Church of the East

THRISSUR: Catholicos Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East Moran Mar Dinkha IV on Sunday consecrated Mar Yohannan Joseph and Mar Augin Kuriakose as new bishops of the Church.

The Episcopal ordination was held at the special venue arranged at Chaldean Syrian Higher Secondary School ground. The Holy Synod of the Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East on Thursday unanimously decided to consecrate Joju Anto, 43, and Shaju Paulose, 35, as bishops with the Archdiocese of India. Both were appointed as Archdeacons at a ceremony on Friday. Along with Moran Mar Dinkha IV, Metropolitans Dr. Mar Aprem (India) and Mar Geevargis Sliwa (Iraq, Russia), Mar Meelis Zaia (Australia and Newzealand), and Bishops Mar Awa Royel (Diocese of California), Mar Odisho Oraham ( Diocese of Europe), Mar Aprem Natneil (Diocese-Syria), Mar Aprim Khamis (Diocese of the United States), Mar Emmanuel Yosip (Diocese of Canada) and Iskhaq Yosip (Diocese of Nohadra and Russia) were attending the Synod. A public reception was accorded to Moran Mar Dinkha IV and the prelates on Sunday. Union Minister of State K. V. Thomas inaugurated the function. The Catholicos Patriarch called for the unity of the faithful for the development of the Church. In his presidential address, Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Marthoma Metropolitan, Head of the Marthoma Syrian Church, said that the Church should take climate change and global warming as major issues. Brief biography
Website of Panampady St. Mary's JSOC

Mor Dionysius was one of the fearless Metropolitans who lead the Malankara church through a time of great crisis. He was born in 1880 (Edavam 15), as the son of Alummoottil John Upadeshi of Kayankulam. When Mikhayel was 18 years old, he was summoned by Pulikkottil Joseph Mar Dionysius, the Malankara Metropolitan, who had arrived at the Kadisha church at Kayankulam and was ordained a deacon on Christmas day. Mikhayel accompanied Mor Dionysius to Kottayam where he continued his education at M.D. Seminary and Old Seminary. He was ordained shamshono by Parumala Mor Gregorius and on Chingam 15, 1910 was ordained priest by Vattasseril Mar Dionysius.

Qasheesho Mikhayel served as member on the Kayamkulam town improvement committee and later in the Sree Moolam Praja Sabha. When schism rent apart the Malankara Syrian Church, Qasheesho Mikhail stood steadfast in his loyalty to the Patriarchate of Antioch parting ways with Vattasseril Mar Dionysius. In September 1927, Qasheesho Mikhayel was ordained Metropolitan Mor Dionysius by Patriarch Elias III. Mor Dionysius led a very simple life, giving away much of his possessions to the poor and needy. Until his death on January 18, 1956, Mor Dionysius was considered a pillar of strength for the church.

The St. George Syrian Orthodox Church in Al Ain, was consecrated in a divine ceremony held on 14th and 15th of January by His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, the Supreme Head of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church, assisted by His Beatitude the Catholicos Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I & other metropolitans of the Holy church. The first part of the consecration ceremony held on 14th evening was led by His Beatitude and on 15th His Holiness consecrated the Church with Holy Mooron.

Suryoyo Metropolitans Their Eminences Mor Philoxenos Mathias Nayis (Patriarchal Assistant), Mor Theophilos George Saliba (Episcopal Synod Secretary, Arch Bishop of Lebanon), Mor Gregorios Yohanna Ibrahim (Arch Bishop of Aleppo and environs), Mor Clemis Daniel (Patriarchal Vicar of Beirut) and Metropolitans from Malankara Their eminences Mor Gregorios Joseph, Mor Theophilos Kuriakose, Mor Milithose Yuhanon, Mor Coorilos Geevarghese and Mor Aphrem Mathews were present during the consecration ceremony.

Padhma Shree Commander Yusuf Ali, His Excellency Sheik Ali Al Hashimi, His Excellency Dr. Rasthum Al Soubi (Syrian Ambassador to UAE) were among the prominent dignitaries who attended the ceremonies. Earlier when the Patriarch accompanied by Suryoyo metropolitans and Rev. Dn. Markose Abraham (Secretary to His Holiness for Malankara Affairs) arrived in U.A.E. Iinternational Airport, the delegation was a given a warm welcome by the Catholicos, the Metropolitans and the faithful.

MEENANGADI: 25th Dukhrono of Mor Philoxenos Samuel will be observed today at St. Peter's & St. Paul's JSO Cathedral here, with 25nmel Qurbono. Metropolitans Their Graces Mor Irenios Paulose of Kozhikode Diocese, Mor Osthatheos Issac of Mylapore Diocese and Mor Philoxenos Zacharias and 22 priests will celebrate Holy Qurbono. Hon. MSV FLASH NEWS: Methran Kakshi Goondaism at Onakkoor Sehion JSO church Methran Kakshi goondas under the leader ship of a person who looks like a priest attacked the believers at Onakkoor Sehion JSO church today morning. 15 Jacobites are admitted to the hospital. Methran Kakshi goondas came in two vans, tried to disturb the priest who was celebrating Holy Qurbono and attacked the believers present. Frustrated "Metran Kakshi" attacked Trustee and faithful of St. Ignatious Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church. Mangalam This one and the Kanjiramattom incident both are to be seen as planned ones to create tension before Aluva perunnal. Chennai Diocese renamed as Mylapore Diocese

PUTHENCURIZ: Chennai Diocese is renamed as Mylapore Diocese and H.G Mor Osthatheos Issac  has been consecrated as the first Metropolitan for the new Diocese, during the ceremony held at Puthencuriz St. Athanasius Cathedral today.

Mylapore Diocese is renowned in the Christian world in connection with St. Thomas, the apostle of India. Though this is an area where Jacobites abound, the Diocese has few worship places. In terms of growth, the Diocese, though small, has huge potential.

We request all faithful to support this new diocese in every way you can. As Mor Osthatheos is deputized to take charge of Mylapore Diocese, MSV and MBSC pray fully join in wishing H.G every success. May heaven showers blessings on this joyous occasion.

PUTHENCURIZ: The Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church today consecrated two new bishops at a pious but auspicious ceremony held at the St. Athanasius Cathedral in the Malankara Syrian Church headquarters, Puthencuriz. The newly ordained Metropolitans are Mor PHILOXINOS Zacharias Therampil, for the Malabar diocese and Mor OSTHATHEOS Issac Pachilakattu, for the Mylapore diocese in Tamil Nadu. More than five thousand faithful from the respective archdioceses and well-wishers, had thronged the church premises to witness the auspicious ceremonies.

The day started at the St. Athanasius Cathedral with the morning worship commencing at 7.30 am. The Catholicos of the East and Metropolitan Trustee, Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas-I, was the chief celebrant at the consecration ceremony which began with a holy Qurbono at 8.30 a.m. Twenty One metropolitans were present on the occasion assisting His Beatitude the Catholicos during the consecration ceremony.

Earlier the four-hour-long ordination process got under way with the ceremonial procession carrying the bishops designates to the Madbaho. This was followed by the reading of the Patriarchal Bull, declaring the elevation of two bishop-designates, for the Malabar diocese and the Mylapore (Chennai) diocese.

The two ‘Rambans’, Rev. Sabor and Aphroth, passed through the consecration process which came to a formal conclusion with the priests chanting ‘oxios,’ holding the bishops high in their chairs by around 12 pm. Following the age-old traditions of the Syrian Church, the new metropolitans were named Mor Philoxenos Zachariah (Zachariah Therambil/Sabor Ramban) and Mor Osthatheos Issac (Issac Pachilakattu) by the chief celebrant Catholicos Mor Baselios Thomas-I.

With this, the total number of bishops of Indian origin in the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church has increased to 30.

The religious ceremonies were followed by a public reception for the new bishops. Leading personalities from all walks of life including the Union Minister Mr. K V Thomas, Minister of State Mr. S Sharma, Leader of the Opposition Mr. Oommen Chandy, honourable members of State Legislative Assembly, Bar Etho Nasiho Commander Dr. T U Kurivilla, Mr. A J Jacob (PIravom), Mr. Babu Paul (Muvattupuzha), Mr. M M Monayi (Ayyampilly), Mr. Saju Paul (Perumbavur), KPCC spokesperson Commander P P Thankachan and others were present on the occasion.

The consecration of the two bishops marks the culmination of a long process which holds the mark of both episcopacy and regional democracy in the Church. The process commenced with the election of two priests as bishop-designates by the respective diocesan assemblies, then approved by the Managing Committee, the Working Committee and finally the Malankara Episcopal Synod followed by the endorsement of the supreme head of the Church, the Patriarch of Antioch & All the East. Thus, on 2nd January 2009, the two bishop designates were ordained Ramban at Kyomtha Seminary, Kochi, by names Sabor and Aphroth.

PUTHENCURIZ: H.H Patriarch Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas approved the recommendation of the Holy Episcopal Synod of Malankara to ordinate Rev. Fr. Zacharia T. I Therambil of Mor Gregorian Centre, Thoothootty, Kottayam and Rev. Fr. Saji Thomas Pachilikkattu, as bishops for Malankara.

They will be ordained as metropolitans on Monday, 4th January 2010, 08:30 hrs at St. Athanasius Cathedral, Puthencuriz, by H.B. Mor Gregorios Jacobite Student Movement (MGJSM) Niranam Unit Inaugurated

TIRUVALLA: Metropolitan of Niranam Diocese, His Grace Dr. Mor Coorilos Geevarghese inaugurated the MGJSM Niranam Diocesan Unit at St. George JSO Cathedral, Kavumbaghom, here. The function was presided by Rev. Dn. Thomas K. Poothicote, Chief – Coordinator - Kollam, Niranam, Thumpamon region. Lijo, MGJSM Central Committee Member was the observer.

Dr. Mor Coorilos emphasized the importance of the organizations like MGJSM in helping the youth to grow strong in the Syrian Christian faith in the inaugural speech. Rev. Dn. Thomas K Poothicote elaborated the history of MGJSM and the vision for the Student Movement units in his presidential address. Rev. Fr. Mathias, Rev. Dn. Alexander and Lijo offered felicitations to the gathered. Around 50 students from different parts of Niranam region attended the meeting.

H.B Catholicos Baselios Thomas I decorated the winners with medal. Mar Basil emerged as the winner of State School Athletics this year, held at Thiruvalla last month. MA College Principal, Dr. Vinny Varghese, Jacob Kodiyattu, Kochidukkula Alexander were decorated with 'Commander' title and Medal. Paulose Mudakkanthala, Biju Morakkunnath, Dr. K. C. കോതമംഗലം: പിണ്ടിമന സെന്റ് ജോണ്‍സ് യാക്കോബായ പള്ളിയില്‍ മാര്‍ യൂഹാനോന്‍ മാം ദോനയുടെ ഓര്‍മപ്പെരുന്നുളിന് ഏലിയാസ് മാര്‍ അത്തനാസിയോസ് മെത്രാപ്പോലീത്ത കൊടിയേറ്റി.

പിറവം: പിറവം വലിയ പള്ളിയില്‍ വിശുദ്ധ ദനഹ പെരുന്നാളിന് കൊടിയേറി. വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച രാവിലെ വികാരി സൈമണ്‍ ചെള്ളിക്കാട്ടില്‍ കോര്‍ എപ്പിസേ്കാപ്പയുടെ കാര്‍മികത്വത്തില്‍ നടന്ന മൂന്നിന്മേല്‍ കുര്‍ബാനയെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് 9.30-നായിരുന്നു കൊടിയേറ്റ്.

ഫാ. സ്‌കറിയ വട്ടയ്ക്കാട്ടില്‍, ഫാ. റോയി മാത്യുസ് എന്നിവര്‍ സഹകാര്‍മികരായി. ട്രസ്റ്റിമാരായ മത്തായി മണപ്പാട്ട്, മത്തായി തേക്കുംമൂട്ടില്‍ എന്നിവരും മാനേജിങ് സമിതിയംഗങ്ങളും ഭക്തസംഘടനാ ഭാരവാഹികളും ചടങ്ങില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തു.

മൂന്ന്, ആറ് തീയതികളിലാണ് പ്രധാന പെരുന്നാള്‍. വലിയ പള്ളിക്ക് കീഴിലുള്ള പേപ്പതി ചാപ്പലില്‍ പെരുന്നാള്‍ ജനവരി മൂന്നിന് ആരംഭിക്കും. വൈകീട്ട് സണ്‍ഡേ സ്‌കൂള്‍ വാര്‍ഷികവും വിവിധ കലാപരിപാടികളും നടക്കും.

നാലിന് വൈകീട്ട് 5ന് പ്രദക്ഷിണം, രാത്രി 10.30ന് കൊച്ചിന്‍ കലാഭവന്റെ ഗാനമേള എന്നിവയുണ്ടാകും. അഞ്ചിന് വൈകീട്ടാണ് പേപ്പതിയില്‍ നിന്ന് പിറവത്തേക്ക് പ്രദക്ഷിണം. ആറിന് സമാപിക്കും.

ഇതുസംബന്ധിച്ച പ്രഖ്യാപനം വൈകാതെ ശ്രേഷ്‌ഠ ബസേലിയോസ്‌ തോമസ്‌ പ്രഥമന്‍ കാതോലിക്കാ ബാവ നിര്‍വഹിക്കും. ചാപ്പലില്‍ സ്‌ഥാപിച്ചിട്ടുളള വിശുദ്ധ കന്യാമറിയത്തിന്റെ ചിത്രത്തില്‍നിന്നു കഴിഞ്ഞ ഒക്‌ടോബര്‍ 21 മുതല്‍ കണ്ണീര്‍ കാണപ്പെട്ടത്‌ ദൈവമാതാവിന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യമറിയിക്കുന്നതാണെന്ന്‌ എപ്പിസ്‌കോപ്പല്‍ സുന്നഹദോസ്‌ നിയോഗിച്ച മെത്രാന്‍ ഉപസമിതി കണ്ടെത്തിയിരുന്നു. സമിതിയുടെ റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട്‌ പരിഗണിച്ച ശേഷമാണു പാത്രിയര്‍ക്കീസ്‌ ബാവ കല്‍പന പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ചത്‌.

സംഭവം പുറത്തായതോടെ നിരവധി വിശ്വാസികളാണു ചാപ്പലില്‍ എത്തി പ്രാര്‍ഥിച്ചു മടങ്ങുന്നത്‌.

ഫ്‌ളക്‌സിലുള്ള ചിത്രത്തില്‍നിന്ന്‌ ഒഴുകുന്ന കണ്ണീര്‍ സുഗന്ധദ്രവ്യമായി വിശ്വാസികള്‍ക്ക്‌ അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നതായി വികാരി ഫാ. റോയ്‌ കട്ടച്ചിറ പറഞ്ഞു. ഇതിനകം ശ്രേഷ്‌ഠ ബാവായും സഭയിലെ എല്ലാ മെത്രാപ്പോലീത്താമാരും കട്ടച്ചിറയിലെത്തി സംഭവം നിരീക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നു.

വിവിധ തലങ്ങളില്‍നിന്നുള്ള റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടുകളും അനുഭവ സാക്ഷ്യങ്ങളും വിലയിരുത്തിയ ശേഷമാണു സുന്നഹദോസ്‌ പരിശുദ്ധ പാത്രിയര്‍ക്കീസ്‌ ബാവായ്‌ക്കു റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട്‌ നല്‍കിയത്‌.
