Malankara Archdiocesan Clergy retreat held

PENNSYLVANIA: The Malankara Archdiocesan Clergy retreat started on Thursday February 25, 2010 at the St. Peter's Syrian Orthodox Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with evening prayers led by His Eminence Mor Theethoos Yeldho, the Archbishop of the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church of North America followed by meditation. Many Priests from all corners of the United States are attending the retreat. Meditation speeches and discussions went on throughout Friday. The Clergy Retreat came to an end on Saturday February 27, 2010 with Holy Qurbono led by His Eminence Mor Theethoos Yeldho.

THUMPAMON: One day conference of JSCYA, Thumpamon Diocese held at Vakayar St. George JSO Valiya Pally on Feb 26, Friday. Diocesan Metropolitan, Mor Milithios Yuhanon inaugurated the Conference. Fr. Paul. E. Varghese [JSCYA - Diocese Vice President], Fr. Joseph Varghese, [Vicar], Fr. Bency Mathew (Church Asst. Vicar), Samuel C. P (JSCYA - Diocese secretary), Daniel Mathew (Church Secretary) spoke. Mr. Aji Mathew (Teacher, Ever shine School, Pathanamthitta) lead the class. The conference was benefited to lots who are going to write public examinations.

KOTTAYAM: Earlier in the morning, SOC Delegation met His Holiness Aram I at Windsor Manor Hotel, where H.H is staying as per the request Armenian deligation. The delegation included Metropolitans Mor Dionysius Behnan Jajawi (Syria), Mor Osthatheos Matta Rohum (Euphrates & Jazirah), Mor Themotheos Thomas (Kottayam), Mor Gregorios Joseph (Kochi), Dr. Mor Theophilose Kuriakose (MSOTS, Central Europe), Dr. Mor Coorilos Geevarghese (Niranam, UK) and Very Rev Dr. Adai Jacob Cor Episcopa (Principal, MSOTS).

KOTTAYAM: Metropolitans Mor Themotheos Thomas (Kottayam) and Dr. Mor Coorilos Geevarghese (Niranam, UK) represented Syriac Orthodox Church at the Ecumenical Meeting held at Orthodox Theological Seminary (OTS) here on Feb 25, Thursday, organised jointly by MOSC and Kerala Council of Churches (KCC). Mor Themotheos and Dr. Mor Coorilos shared their experience, working with H.H Aram I in various forums of World Council of Churches (WCC) and other Orthodox Forums. His Holiness Aram I inaugurated the Meeting by lighting the lamp. Rt. Rev. Dr. Zacharias Mar Theophilose Suffragon Metropolitan (Marthoma Syrian Church), His Grace Paulose Mar Milithios (MOSC), Rt. Rev. Thomas Samuel (CSI), Prof. Philip N Thomas (Secretary, KCC) also spoke.

CALIFORNIA, USA: The heads of the Oriental Orthodox Churches accompanied by clergy representatives of the Western United States, met on Tuesday February 16th, 2010 and discussed issues of mutual interests at St. Athanasius Coptic Church, Northridge, California. The Executive Council meeting was hosted by The Coptic Orthodox Church.

The attendees of the Syriac Orthodox Church were: His Eminence Archbishop Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan who was accompanied by Rev. Fr. Louis Yacob and Rev. Fr. John Saif. Also in attendance were their Eminences Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian of the Armenian Orthodox Church Archdiocese, Bishop Serapion of the Coptic Orthodox Church, Los Angeles Diocese, and the clergy representatives.

Foundation stone laid for new Syriac Orthodox Church of St. John The Baptist, Jordan (Christ's Baptism site)

JORDAN: Saturday on 13 February 2010 the Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate in the Holy Land, Jerusalem, Celebrated laying the foundation stone of the Church of Saint John the Baptist in Jordan on the baptism site. Sponsored by Patriarchal Vicar His Eminence Mor Severios Malki Murad and at the presence of a large gathering of the Syriac faithful from Amman, Irbid, Jerusalem, Bethlehem and the Diaspora.

Mor Severios confirmed that the originality and sanctity of this site are proved by certificates of the sacred books, archaeological monuments, historical sayings of travellers and pilgrims who have visited this royal site. This is the place where Jesus Christ was baptized by St. John the Baptist.

His Eminence thanked the Majesty King Abdullah II for his initiative to allocate parts of the soaked land for the Christian churches. His Eminence also indicated and confirmed the keenness of His Majesty of the Islamic-Christian coexistence in Jordan until this very day, and the participation of life among all the population is like one family of Jordan.
 

It is worthy to mention that the design of the church depends on the original architecture of the East, such as those harmony in the natural environment for the Baptism Site. Further the building of unique churches with the architectural design on the eastern bank of the Jordan River, is witness to the challenge and as well as proof of the faithful people to the natural forces for building a Church after another in the spot where they believe that Jesus was baptized in this site for it becomes a shrine for pilgrims from all over the world.

MAROL, MUMBAI: The St. Ignatius Jacobite Syrian Church at Marol, near International Airport in the heart of Mumbai city, was Consecrated with Holy Mooron in a divine ceremony held on Friday, 19th February 2010 by His Beatitude Catholicos Baselios Thomas I, and assisted by Their Graces Mor Eusebios Kuriakose (Mumbai & Trichur Diocese) and Mor Theodosius Mathews, (Quilon & Kuwait Dioceses) Metropolitans on Friday, 19th February 2010 at 7.00.p.m. Vicar Rev. Fr. Mathew George Kallumkal received His Beatitude with a lighted candle.

Rev. Fr. Geevarghese Johnson (Dombivili), Rev. Fr. Jacob Kocheril (Malad), Rev. Fr. Eldho Varghese (Nerul), Rev. Fr. Varghese Chenganattu (Kalina), Rev. Fr. Eldho Edappattu (Vasai), Rev. Fr. Kuriakose Kollannur (Mulund), Rev. Fr. James Abraham (Anushaktinagar), Rev. Fr. George Elluvilla (Panvel), Mathai Koonapalli (Kalyan East), Rev. Fr. Dr. C. P. Varghese (Baroda), Rev. Fr. M. P. Paulose (Ahmedabad), Rev. Fr. Manu Mathew (Kothamangalam), and Mathews Kavunkal were present during the consecration ceremony.

Anniversary Feast and the 78th Dukhrono of St. Ignatius Elias III (Manjanikkara Bava) was celebrated on Saturday, 20th February 2010. Holy Qurbono was offered on three altars at 8.30 a.m. H.B. Baselios Thomas I Catholicos was the Chief Celebrant. H.G. Kuriakose Mor Eusebios Metropolitan and H.G. Mathews Mor Theodosios Metropolitan were the co-celebrants. A public meeting was held at 10.30 a.m., followed by Love Feast.
