Ishaq, who is on a visit to Sweden accorded a warm welcome by the
Syriac Orthodox Community here. Patriarchal Vicar for Sweden &
Scandinavia, His Eminence Mor Dioscorus Binyamin Atas presided over
the function. During His Eminence's speech, Mor Dioscorus remembered
the care and support, Malankara Archdiocese and His Beatitude
Catholicos Baselios Thomas I showing towards His Eminence and Syriac

Dr. Mor Coorilos Geevarghese emphasised the need of 'healing of
memories' in Church's Mission. Mor Coorilos was leading the worship
and Bible Study at the Assembly of the Christian Conference of Asia
on 19th April, 2010. Breaking down the walls of division that exist
in our world today is an important aspect of this ministry, Dr.
Coorilos told. Mor Coorilos was given the honour of leading the
closing worship and inducting the newly elected officers of the CCA
for the next five years.

chempeduppu will be conducted after the Holy Qurbono.

Archbishop of Aleppo, Dr. Mor Gregorios Youhanna Ibrahim visited H.E
Dr. Mor Julius Hanna Aydin on April 20, Tuesday. H.E. Mor Gregorios
Yohanna Ibrahim of Aleppo archdiocese in Syria has been sent as His
Holiness' emissary to meet Mor Julius Hanna Aydin. Among the bishops
who visited His eminence at the hospital includes Mor Osthatheos
Ishaq, Metropolitan of Mylapore diocese in India who conveyed the
prayers of His Beatitude the Catholicos of India.
Meanwhile the German police has released pictures of three suspects
who committed armed robbery. They expressed confidence in booking
the culprits soon. The 1,00,000 strong Syrian Orthodox faithful in
Germany along with other Church faithful world over is praying for
the quick recovery of their prelate. Germany is the country where
the largest number of the Syriac Orthodox Diaspora is living and the
most of the settlers here are from Turabdin and nearby areas of
Turkey.

Diocese of Orange, entered eternal life H.E Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan

ORANGE, US: His Eminence Mor
Clemis Eugene Kaplan, Archbishop of the Western US, accompanied with
Rev. Fr. George Touma of Virgin Mary Syriac Orthodox Church, Orange,
represented Syriac Orthodox Church and participated in the funeral
of the late retired Bishop Most Rev. Dr. Norman F. McFarland, D.D.,
J.C.D. of Catholic Diocese of Orange, who entered eternal life on
Friday April 16th, 2010. The funeral was held at the Holy Family
Cathedral here on April 23, Friday. Most Rev. Dr. Norman was born in
AD 1922 and ordained as Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Orange in AD
1970. Dr. Norman retired from the post in AD 1998 following a
chronic illness. Most Rev. Dr. Norman took his Doctorate in Canon
Law from the Catholic University of America (CUA).

ALEPPO, SYRIA: Archbishop Dr. Mor Gregorios Youhanna
Ibrahim visited the new President of University of Aleppo, Dr. Nidal
Shehadeh on April 14, Wednesday at his chamber at the University
Campus here. Dr. Elias Shamao, Vice Chairman of Milli Majlis
in St. Ephraim's Syrian Orthodox Cathedral accompanied Archbishop.
Dr. Gregorios wished Dr. Shehadeh on behalf of Syriac Orthodox
Church. The visit will surely be a landmark in the educational
relation between the Syriac Orthodox Church and the University, said
Dr. Gregorios. Hon. President of Syria, His Excellency Dr. Bashar Al
Assad appointed Dr. Nidal Shehadeh as the new President of the
University earlier this year and he is succeeding Dr. Mohammed Nizar
Akil. Dr. Shehadeh holds a PhD in Civil Engineering to his credit.
University of Aleppo, established in AD 1958, is the second largest
university in Syria, after University of Damascus.

Aydin, the Syriac Orthodox bishop of Germany has been attacked and
tied up by an unknown robber in the early hours of Friday. His
Eminence has suffered serious injuries and been hospitalized. Police
has registered a case and started investigation.

BANGALORE: The Annual Vacation Bible
School (VBS) of the Bangalore Diocese of the Jacobite Syrian
Orthodox Church was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Paulose M.U, Diocesan
Secretary at the St. Mary's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Cathedral,
Queens Road, in the presence of Rev. Fr. Eldho John, Rev. Fr.
Geevarghese George Pulayath, Rev. Fr. John Iype, Rev. Fr. Kuriakose
Punnachalil, Mrs. Mruthu Thomas (VBS Director), Mr. B. Joseph, Dr.
N. K. Philip, Dr. Santhosh Korath, Manish Kuriakose, other Sunday
School teachers, volunteers and hundreds of children here today.
Earlier, the Sunday School flag was hoisted by Very Rev. Roy Abraham
Kochattu Cor-Episcopa. "Life so blessed" is the theme for this
year's VBS. Around 150 children from the various Jacobite churches
in Bangalore are taking part in this programme which will conclude

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: Metropolitan of Niranam, Dr. Mor Coorilos
Geevarghese addressed the Pre-Assembly forum for people living with
HIV and AIDS at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia yesterday, April 12, 2010.
Mor Coorilos gave a theological presentation on Christian Care for
People Living with HIV-AIDS. The Pre-Assembly forum was attended by
60 people comprising of bishops, church leaders, theologians,
medical professionals, counsellors and people living with HIV and
AIDS. Mor Coorilos will also address the Assembly of the Christian
Conference of Asia on the 19th. The Assembly will commence on the
14th and will conclude on the 21st. Mor Coorilos is also
representing the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church at the Assembly and
His Grace is also one of the resource persons for the Assembly as
well as pre-assembly meetings.

Gregorios III Laham visited His Holiness Patriarch Ignatius
Zakka I Iwas at St. Ephraim's Patriarchal Monastery here on
April 11, Sunday. His Beatitude is accompanied by the members of
Pontifical Mission in the Middle East. His Eminence Cardinal
Tarcisio Bertone, Cardinal Secretary of Vatican State is leading
the Mission. Their Eminences Metropolitans of Greek Melkite
Catholic Patriarchate is accompanying the Patriarch. The
delegation was welcomed by Metropolitans Their Eminences Mor
Philoxenos Mathias Nayis (Patriarchal Assistant) and Mor
Dionysius Yuhanon Kawaq (Director - Patriarchal Office) at the
monastery. The Pontifical Mission is commissioned by His
Holiness Pope Benedict XIV to study the situation of Christians
in Middle East. Cardinal Bertone referred the ecumenical
relations between the churches in Middle East as a model to the
whole world. His Beatitude Gregorios III Laham briefed His
Holiness about his recent visit to Malankara to attend the Syro
- Malankara Rite Metropolitan consecration of four monks held at
Trivandrum on March 13, 2010.

BASELIOS PAULOSE II NAGAR, VARIKKOLI:
Thousands of faithful proclaimed the true faith, viz. Antiochian
faith on April 11, Sunday at St. Mary's JSO Church here. His
Beatitude Catholicos Baselios Thomas I inaugurated the Edavaka
Sangamam and Faith Proclamation Rally. Rev. Fr. Thomas
Mureekkan, Vicar welcomed the dignitaries and faithful. Diocesan
Metropolitan His Grace Dr. Mor Ivanios Mathews presided over the
function. Hon. Minister S Sharma inaugurated the House Construction
Scheme of Elias III Charitable Society. Holy Episcopal Synod
Secretary His Grace Mor Gregorios Joseph delivered the benedictory
speech. Metropolitan of Simhasana Churches and Institutions in
India, His Grace Mor Athanasius Geevarghese honoured the former
vicars of the church. K P Dhanapalan MP, M M Monayi MLA, Haji T H
Musthafa Ex Minister, Bar Etho M'hero Thampu George Thukalan,
Bar Etho Kashiro George Mathew Thekkethalakkal, Very Rev.
Panachiyil Thomas Cor Episcopa, Rev. Fr. Sleeba Paul Vattavelil and
others spoke on the occasion. General Convenor V E Thomas Velloor
delivered vote of thanks.
Kolkata parish bids farewell
to three of our deacons
KOLKATA: Three of our Deacons,
viz. Rev. Dn. Jolly Abraham (Kottayam Diocese), Rev. Dn. Libin
Kuriakose (Kottayam Diocese) and Rev. Dn. Christo C. Kurien (Knanaya
Arch Diocese) have very successfully completed their B.D. programme
from the Serampore University through the Bishops College in Kolkata
and they are returning to Kerala shortly for serving our great
Church.
During
their four year stay in Kolkata, they were active in all the
programmes of the St. Mary's JSO Church (Kolkata Parish). In order
to bid farewell to them, the Parish held a meeting in the Church
immediately after the Holy Qurbono on Sunday, the 11th
April 2010. Rev. Fr. (Dr.) K. P. Aleaz, the senior most Professor
of the Bishops College and the member priest of the Kolkata Parish
was also present in the meeting. The Vicar, Rev. Fr. Philipose
Abraham, detailed the contributions made by the Deacons to the
Parish and called upon all the members of the Parish to pray to God
so that the Deacons are blessed with the required wisdom to lead our
Church to further heights. Rev. Fr. (Dr.) K. P. Aleaz stated in
his address that the Deacons have proved their worth not only in
the College Campus but also in the Kolkata Parish. He also expressed
his confident that with the capabilities they have, the Deacons are
going to be very good assets for the entire Syriac Orthodox Church.
Fr. Aleaz concluded his address by wishing all the success in their
career. Mr. N. V. Alias, the Vice President of the Kolkata
Parish, also spoke on the occasion and conveyed the gratitude and
respect the parish is having towards them for all their
contributions. As a token of appreciation, the Deacons were
presented with mementos on behalf of the Parish.

Mor Gregorios Youhanna Ibrahim represented Syriac Orthodox Church
and spoke on the good relation between the two communities. His
Holiness Bartholomew I honoured Syriac Orthodox Church by presenting

Rajaratnam, Former President, National Council of Churches in India
(NCCI) passed away
H.G Dr. Mor Coorilos
Geevarghese expressed grief in the sad demise of Dr. Rajaratnam
CHENNAI: Dr.
K. Rajaratnam PhD, DTh, DD, DLitt, economics
teacher and a leader of the United Evangelical
Lutheran Church in India, passed away here on
Wednesday. He was 89 and is survived by a son
and three daughters.
Born and raised in Tirupati, Professor
Rajaratnam obtained his doctorate in economics
from the London School of Economics after
completing his college education at the Madras
Christian College, Chennai. He taught at various
colleges, including the Andhra Christian
College, Guntur, the Madras Christian College,
Chennai, and at the University of Madras.
He was president of the National Council of
Churches in India (NCCI) and chairman of the
Commission of Dalits and Adivasis' Concern of
the NCCI. He introduced new departments such as
the Division of Social Action, New Gurukul
Theological College and Research Institute, and
the National Lutheran Health Medical Board,
which led to the establishment of the Martin
Luther Christian University, Shillong, of which
his son Dr. K. M. Shyamprasad is now the
Chancellor.
Professor Rajaratnam established the Centre for
Research on New International Economic Order (CReNIO)
recognized by the UGC, Madras University and
Bharatidasan University for Ph.D. and M.Phil.
studies, and he was active during his stint at
the University of Madras in various capacities.
He was involved with various NGOs especially
working on Dalits and rural issues in Orissa and
Tamil Nadu. Mr. Shyamprasad said he was active
in education and social causes and had stepped
down as the Master of Serampore College last
month.
He was director of CReNIO at the time of his
death. Dr. Mor Coorilos Geevarghese of Niranam,
UK and Trivandrum Dioceses expressed grief on
the sad demise of Dr. Rajaratnam.

Bhavan on April 08, Thursday. Dr. John is a
member of St. Ignatius JSO Simhasana Cathedral,
Kottayam and presently attending St. Mary's JSO
Church, Ahmedabad. Padma Shri Dr. P I John is
the great grand son of Pucadiyil Ittoop Writer,
the great historian of Jacobite Syrian Orthodox
Church.

the regional centre of Kandanad Diocese was consecrated by His
Beatitude Catholicos Baselios Thomas I on April 9, Friday. Newly
consecrated metropolitans of the church, Their Graces Mor
Philoxenos Zacharias (Malabar), Mor Osthatheos Ishaq (Mylapore)
and Mor Barnabas Geevarghese (Spiritual Organizations) were
given a warm reception at Palakuzha by the diocese. H.B

Vilambara Rally started from Malecuriz Dayaro at 2 pm on April 10,
Saturday. Very Rev Fr. Finahas Ramban handed over the
Patriarchal flag to Fr. Thomas Mureekan & Youth association members.
H.G Mor Barnabas Geevarghese welcomed the rally at Puthencuriz
Patriarchal Centre. After visiting all the chapels and shrines, the

to organize the functions related to consecration. The regional

Coorilos Geevarghese inaugurated the UGC Sponsored Round table Conference
on the Land Issues in Kerala, held at Loyola College, Trivandrum.
Prof. T. K. Oommen (JNU, New Delhi), Dr. Sivandandan (Chairman,
SC/ST Commission) and other dignitaries attended the seminar. The
suggestions and recommendations of the conference will be submitted
to the Govt. of Kerala and public.

Paul's Congregation formed in Rome, Italy. Rev. Fr. Prince Mannathoor
is the first vicar of the newly started church. Managing Committee
has decided to conduct Holy Mass every month. Rev. Fr. Prince
